Serves as chief brand strategist responsible for the strategy, tactics and programs to create interest, demand and recognition for the Sonic Foundry corporate offering. Oversees all marketing activities including public relations, creative services, advertising, strategic relationships, product, field, vertical, direct, event, channel and online marketing. Works with internal constituents and third-party agencies to help craft corporate message and develop the marketing strategy to execute plan. Position is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, training and managing all marketing functions to achieve the company objective of sales, growth, profits and visibility while ensuring a consistent marketing message and positioning consistent with the corporate direction.

  • Manage and develop a team of marketing specialists, select and manage contractors and agencies as needed
  • Use research to develop, implement and measure strategies 
  • Develop digital, SEO and traditional marketing campaigns across multiple platforms
  • Generate strategies, ideas and implementation of corporate communications, collaborating with CEO and other senior leaders
  • Lead the team that defines the brand strategy for Sonic Foundry
  • Work within the culture of the organization and its user base to build consensus for enhancing and extending the brand
  • Ensure consistency, quality and adherence to brand standards in all company communication and materials
  • Contribute to profitability by executing cost-effective demand generation campaigns that yield positive ROI
  • Spearhead the identification of productive new themes for successful thought leadership and content marketing initiatives including webinars, ebooks and custom research
  • Oversees all industry analyst relations; design and execute analyst reaction plan 
  • Plans and administers the marketing operations budget
  • Oversees all marketing and communications activities including external communications and systems, internal communications and systems, public relations efforts, external vendors and consultants
  • Supervises client relations activities including client satisfaction surveys, client development activities, and special events
  • Participate in creating strategic partnerships, alliances and bundles that to ensure the company is highly visible and properly positioned and referenced
  • Oversees company’s print and electronic marketing efforts, including supervision of web site design and maintenance, specifically text, graphics, brand consistency and content clarity
  • 7 to 10 years of experience and successful track record in strategic, comprehensive marketing program planning and implementation preferably in the educational content area
  • Direct experience in a successful high growth business environment
  • Ability to present concepts in new ways and from new perspectives
  • Well versed in using SEO and social media strategies 
  • Demonstrated ability to launch leadership brands in the marketplace while fostering a positive corporate culture that personifies a new, singular brand message
  • Able to adapt key messages for multiple audiences, including end users and prospects in various verticals, investors and strategic channel partners
  • Strong analytical background to drive marketing strategy and execution of metrics-based marketing initiatives
  • Experience managing, creating and optimizing corporate marketing campaigns and materials as well as managing field marketing support for sales tools, tradeshows and events
  • High level of energy and enthusiasm and excellent interpersonal/team-building skills related to working with senior level executives, clients, partners, vendors and staff colleagues
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or an MBA with a concentration in marketing or the equivalent in direct professional experience
