The Director of Marketing leads overall organizational branding, marketing and communications and is responsible for development of and consistency in the strategic positioning and message development for The Arc Minnesota. This position reports to the Chief Advancement Officer, and works closely with the Chief Program Officer and other leaders to identify strategies that explain, promote and further The Arc Minnesota’s programs and services.

1. Brand Leadership

  • Lead and design overall strategic planning efforts to increase public awareness through improved branding that clearly articulates The Arc Minnesota’s mission, vision and competitive advantage
  • Develop and manage brand platform and story for The Arc Minnesota. Provides support and guidance to Arc’s Value Village Thrift Stores & Donation Centers as requested.

2. Media/Public Relations and Communications Counsel

  • Serve as the spokesperson for The Arc Minnesota as needed and provide media training and coaching for staff to serve as subject matter experts. Create and maintain key messages for all topics and issues 
  • Update and distribute The Arc media policy for all forms of media including social media

3. Community Marketing and Awareness Building

  • Lead work with CEO, CPO, CAO, Development and Communications team, Resource Development Committee, Marketing Committee and key volunteer groups to coordinate and launch a community movement engaging employers, businesses, individuals and families in The Arc’s mission 
  • Recruit and lead the Volunteer Marketing Committee to determine, design and implement strategies

4. Print and Digital Communications

  • Lead the design, messaging and creation of newsletters, annual report, postcards, brochures, etc., overseeing outside designers and managing pro-bono printing resources 
  • Direct and publish organizational e-communications

Essential Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in mass communications, journalism or marketing preferred. 
  • 5+ years experience in developing branding and key messaging required. 
  • Experience supervising staff, interns and volunteers required. 
  • Demonstrated writing, editing, public relations and social media expertise desired. 
  • Community involvement and volunteerism is an asset. 
  • Candidates must be willing to flex hours and work days to accommodate special events and projects. 
  • Professional manner, able to handle confidential information, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required.
