Astellas is announcing a Director, Women's Health Marketing in Northbrook, IL.

Purpose & Scope:

The Director, Marketing role will lead the US-based commercial team in preparing, building, and ensuring execution of the strategic and tactical plans to launch a novel, first-in-class product to treat the VMS symptoms associated with menopause. The role will be also be responsible for building out the larger launch team -- whether transitioning existing resources from legacy brands or incremental resources -- to ensure an optimal launch. Will be required to align the largest commercial resource request ever for Astellas to deliver on sizeable corporate expectations for the brand. The successful candidate will need to collaborate extensively with other functions -- M&D, MedAffairs, and Global Marketing -- to ensure the success of the brand.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for strategy development and execution for fezolinetant in the US market and co-creation of the global strategy with global/regional counterparts 
  • Sets the US-based strategic direction, drives customer segmentation, provides direction for other commercial functions and ensures the execution and lifecycle management of brand plans 
  • Responsible for driving the strategy within the department/across the business unit 
  • Participates as an active member on Medical Specialties leadership team and helps to shape strategy and culture within the business unit 
  • Liaison with Global Brand leads, Global Development, Regulatory Affairs and Medical Affairs to develop appropriate clinical and life cycle management options 
  • Develops appropriate thought-leader relationships to help better inform decision making for the brand 
  • Oversees the management of marketing research projects, to ensure appropriate insights are being gathered and incorporated 
  • Develops and oversees implementation of key metrics and subsequent communication of those metrics to senior management 
  • Assess and determine appropriate KPIs to evaluate the launch readiness and eventual launch performance and adjust strategies/tactics accordingly 
  • Oversees the development of the situation analysis and ensures that essential insights and data are in place -- and gaps identified -- to develop strong plans 
  • Oversees the management of the advertising agency and promotional review system to implement overall campaign elements, educational, promotional and public relations programs 
  • Ensures strong cross-functional collaboration (i.e., Health Systems, Training, Global Marketing, Manufacturing, etc.) in developing and implementing strong strategic and tactical plans to achieve brand/corporate goals, and determine opportunities for continued improvement 
  • Effectively manages promotional budget, planned to be in excess of $150MM at launch 
  • Identifies and implements improvements for future launch, development and life-cycle activities 
  • Responsible for business development related to all brands (e.g. strategy input, working with BD group and participating in BD meetings with potential partners and evaluate opportunities) 
  • Works effectively with global functions to support ex-US launches and to share best 
  • Formulates new stakeholder development plans for assigned product with internal and external stakeholders to address the changing healthcare environment and maintain current stakeholder relationships. 
  • Fosters a positive and collaboration-oriented team culture. 
  • Ensures strong collaboration with cross-functional colleagues 
  • Seeks innovative opportunities aligned with brand objectives to significantly improve brand performance 
  • Ensures all team members are trained on compliance and procedures and that all work is completed in an ethical and compliant manner 
  • Attracts, develops and retains Marketing team members. 
  • Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, 
  • Implements other support functions as assigned by the VP of Medical Specialties Marketing, including above-brand projects to impact the long-term success of Astellas

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree. 
  • This level requires 12 years related, relevant experience (marketing, sales, sales training, market research, marketing operations, finance, forecasting, etc.)
  • This position requires a deep understanding of consumer-driven markets, including DTC/DTP/ social media channels. Demonstrated ability to be a high-level contributor and leader of multiple projects, processes or functions. 
  • Experience with international product launches and strategies preferred 
  • Prior management/supervisory experience required 
  • Strong track record of achieving the respect of, and productive working relationship with, colleagues across all departments and developing strong working relationships with higher level external/internal partners 
  • Ability to present complex issues to higher-level management and contribute to high-level presentations and discussions is a must. 
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, retain and lead teams to achieve goals 
  • Willing to travel (approximately 40%).
