We are looking for a creative, collaborative, entrepreneurial storyteller to support editorial content strategy and position people as the center of our communications.

The ideal candidate will apply a journalistic mindset to create meaningful, memorable and actionable content that simultaneously amplifies Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. A soon to be launched omni-channel communications platform will provide an opportunity to build out new ways of authentically and measurably sharing information and creating a two-way conversation. The successful candidate will be able to help shape a comprehensive narrative of the Northern Trust culture in order to drive belonging and engagement across the business.

Major Duties:

  • Assist Editor-in-Chief on content development and deployment on corporate intranet, newsletters and emerging digital platforms 
  • Update editorial calendar and proactively solicit key dates from internal comms leads; flag potential conflicts 
  • Proactively engage in partner-centered storytelling across multimedia platforms and published across existing and emerging communications channels 
  • Assist in the development of visual storytelling on new mobile channel 
  • Serve as social media and integrated comms liaison with external team 
  • Employ enterprise narrative and brand standards 
  • Utilize data to inform decision-making and recommendations 
  • Support consistent messaging and communications initiatives that are always meaningful, memorable and actionable 
  • Amplify a DEI narrative and demonstrate how our commitment enables our business, belonging and culture 
  • Provide communication support for key business meetings

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Background in communications, journalism or marketing roles 
  • Passion for DEI and CSR communications 
  • Digital and social media communications experience a plus 
  • Ability to follow a stylebook (AP) 
  • Visual storytelling experience (video production, graphic design, and/or website design) a plus 
  • Ability to track key performance indicators and recognize longitudinal trends

  • Ability to prioritize deadlines and work independently 
  • Passion for bringing the discipline of simplicity and continuous improvement to all aspects of work
