Milwaukee Downtown, BID (Business Improvement District) #21 is an organization established in 1998 to support the interests of the downtown Milwaukee business community. Through BID #21 assessments, Milwaukee Downtown funds specific initiatives aimed at creating a clean, safe and friendly downtown. The district currently manages 150 blocks representing approximately 500 commercial property owners.

Our Mission is to lead and inspire believers in Milwaukee to engage in efforts that build Downtown as the thriving, sustainable, innovative, and vibrant heart of the community.

Are you a highly organized, fantastic go-getter with a passion for Milwaukee? Do you love event management and community building? If so, you may be a perfect fit! Milwaukee Downtown is hiring a Events & Placemaking Intern for the summer months!

2023 Spring/Summer Placemaking events include:

  • Big Truck Day (Saturday, May 20)
  • Heartbeats of the City powered by MGIC (weekly food truck and concert series, Wednesdays, June – August)
  • PNC presents Tunes@Noon (Concert series every Thursday, June – August)
  • Summer Spinz (Roller skating event, Third Fridays in June, July, and August)
  • “Evanescent” (Public art installation, July 19 – 23)
  • Daily Red Arrow Park management, including oversight of banner installation, furniture, and maintenance 
  • Onsite event assistance includes set-up and tear-down of summer series at Red Arrow Park and 411 East Wisconsin Center courtyard

Office Management: 

  • Represent Milwaukee Downtown as public-facing event personnel at all summer events
  • Be prepared to professionally assist and answer questions, concerns, and comments regarding Milwaukee Downtown via telephone, email, and social media
  • Assist with Board of Directors preparation when applicable
  • Identify placemaking grants for the organization
  • Other social media and marketing tasks as assigned
  • A passion for community work, event production, and all things Milwaukee.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Marketing, Journalism, Communication, Urband Studies & Placemaking majors encouraged to apply
  • Current university and/or recent graduates preferred

Part-time internship at $12/hour, up to 25 hours / week.
