Position Summary:

The Manager of Global Public Relations and Communications is accountable for Mercury Marine’s communications strategy (internal and external) including support of all communications for the President of Mercury Marine as well as the corporate communications, media relations and brand public relations strategy and execution. This position reports into the Chief Marketing Officer at Mercury Marine with a dotted line to the Brunswick Corporation director of public relations and communications. This unique role will be based in Fond du Lac, supporting the Mercury Marine business, but with a strong connection to the Brunswick corporate office for many of the roles and responsibilities required to be successful in this role. This role will have one direct report – Project Manager; Mercury Marine Internal Communications.

What will your primary responsibilities be?

Internal & Mercury Corporate Communications

  • Support communication needs for Mercury Marine’s President including internal and external presentation development, written communications and personal brand building 
  • Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders 
  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as a staff intranet, emails, publications or video communication 
  • Draft messages or scripts from senior executives for presentation to employees in written or spoken form 
  • Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments 
  • Handle the internal communication response to crisis situations which affect organizational perception and reputation

Global Public & Media Relations

  • Create and execute global public relations strategy for Mercury Marine as part of the overall Brunswick communications and PR strategy, including acting as a point person for Mercury related media requests, publishing timely company information, actively pitching members of leadership as thought leaders to media outlets and acting as a company spokesperson 
  • Serve as public relations, strategic and crisis communications counsel in support of brand and business unit communication teams 
  • Work collaboratively with communications leads at Brunswick and across the enterprise to ensure consistent and effective communication 
  • Create, write, approve and distribute all global press releases for Mercury Marine 
  • Create and manage global media events during boat shows, product launches and mainstream events

Community Relations

  • Develop relationships with and communicate with community leaders to ensure collaborative message in the communities in which we live and work. 
  • Act as liaison from community to executive team in times of crisis 
  • Work closely with law enforcement, first responders and others in the community to ensure proper messaging in times of a crisis

Who are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field. 
  • Minimum 5+ years’ professional experience in PR & communication roles at a company or agency. 
  • Skilled in written and verbal communication – very strong presentation development skills required (PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and familiarity with InDesign). 
  • Strong business acumen 
  • Creative, decisive, collaborative, responsive, able to work independently and take responsibility for decisions and outcomes. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. 
  • Ability to work independently without a large staff 
  • Ability to work and succeed in a matrixed reporting structure 
  • Works effectively across businesses and cultures to gain alignment and improve results 
  • Travel domestically
