The non-partisan Government Relations office advances the Minneapolis’ Fed’s strategic priority to make an impact on public policy by developing relationships with federal, state and local lawmakers, educating policymakers about our mission and work, and sharing our research and policy proposals. As a Government Relations Coordinator, you will work under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for Government Relations and work closely with colleagues across the Bank, including in the President’s office, Public Affairs, Community Development and Engagement, the Center for Indian Country Development, and our Research Division, among others.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Government Relations function in managing daily information needs and communication requests from internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Draft communications, including briefing materials for the President or other Bank leaders, emails, memorandums, and policy summaries. 
  • Manage relationships and maintain regular communications, both in-person and digitally, with both internal and external partners. 
  • Monitor the legislative/regulatory landscape to maintain ongoing awareness of the financial services, banking sectors and high priority initiatives. 
  • Conduct research to support the creation, production, and distribution of collateral materials, including fact sheets and research briefs. 
  • Support the Bank’s outreach and engagement activities with key community and legislative stakeholders, including travel and event planning and budget development. 
  • Gather and maintain accurate and detailed information about contacts, stakeholders and policy topics in formats that can be shared with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Build business practice and administer our customer relationship management tool for government relations, tracking outreach activities and maintaining detailed constituent profiles and visit notes. 
  • Help schedule meetings, tours, briefings, and other activities for lawmakers, in Minnesota, across the region and in Washington, D.C. 
  • May travel up to 10%.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination or education and experience. 
  • Bachelor's in political science, public policy or communications strongly preferred. 
  • One year of professional legislative process experience to include experience supporting legislative or policy-related initiatives. 
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail; able to meet deadlines. 
  • Work both independently and as part of a team, and take work direction from other team members. 
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills. 
  • Able to do online research and write clear and concise analyses. 
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced, complex work environment. 
  • Sound judgement, able to be non-partisan and to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Conscientious colleague who can be counted on to follow-through, close the loop, and deliver high quality work at speed.

  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in government relations, federal or state legislatures. 
  • Experience tracking legislation and policy changes. 
  • Prior experience working with a customer relations management tool, especially Microsoft Dynamics 365 and with marketing and event management platforms such as Constant Contact, CVent or similar tools. 
  • Experience working with large sets of data, using Excel or other data management tools. 
  • A requirement of this position is that you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and received all approved boosters or qualify for an accommodation from the Bank’s vaccination policy; the Bank will provide accommodations as required by law for individuals unable to be vaccinated due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief. 
  • An essential function of this position is working onsite; this position qualifies for a hybrid working arrangement that supports remote work, but generally requires being onsite at least 4 days a week. (Hybrid schedule available after completing six months of employment.)
