POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports work that identifies, establishes, maintains and expands relationships with family, corporate, and community foundations across the United States, and leverages those relationships to secure funding for the programs operated by the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP)/Be The Match. This position helps develop program content and data that will be used in grant applications, reports, stewardship communications and other forms of public outreach. Responsibilities include assisting in identifying prospective funders and fundable programs and initiatives, outreach to current and prospective funders, writing program descriptions, designing quantitative metrics (e.g., goals, objectives, and intended outcomes), preparing and submitting grant applications, following up with progress reports, and stewarding relationships to cultivate increased and long-term support. This position will work closely and collaboratively with BTM Foundation leadership, business partners and volunteer leaders. This position can be based in Minneapolis, MN or home-based anywhere in the U.S.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Foundation Relations:

  • Conducts cold outreach to grow pipeline of family/corporate/community foundations 
  • Communicates with potential foundation funders to advance targets into the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship phases. 
  • Matches high-potential foundation prospects with well-aligned programs and projects that fall within established priority areas (unrestricted, recruitment, patient assistance and research). 
  • Submits quality, timely grant applications and reports, and implement stewardship plan to maintain relationships leading to increased funding support and engagement. 
  • Collaborates with Corporate Partnerships and Major Gifts/Family Foundations and provide content and data to support grant applications and requests stemming from these areas. 
  • Works effectively with Be The Match Foundation and NMDP staff, Board members and volunteers as needed to lead and support outreach and stewardship activities.

Content Development and Management:

  • Assists in developing specialized content and metrics for grant applications. 
  • Works with NMDP program liaisons to request and track program data, including overall outcomes as well as specialized outcomes (e.g., state-based data, Transplant Grants for Kids data, achievements of the Amy Scholars for research and professional development, etc.).
  • Conducts research to develop and/or describe content and metrics, including all information areas requested within grant applications (e.g., need for program/project, goals and objectives, timeline, implementation, intended impact, outcomes for evaluation, key staff, budget, and other areas as identified).

Grant Submission and Management:

  • Helps maintain a calendar of grant submission and reporting deadlines to ensure timely submission of applications, progress reports and other follow-up correspondence, and develop status reports of solicitation and reporting activities.

Other Accountabilities:

  • Communicates the NMDP’s mission, programs, accomplishments and goals to external audiences effectively, in oral and written formats as appropriate 
  • Strengthens relationships among Be The Match Foundation and NMDP staff in various departments to further integrate the Foundation with our parent organization and cultivate information exchange. 
  • Undertakes special projects as assigned. 
  • Actively participates as a Foundation team member to ensure the achievement of overall goals. 
  • Ensures confidentiality of Foundation and NMDP information.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Demonstrated ability to write successful proposals and reports. 
  • Demonstrated ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and meet deadlines. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication; proficient in word processing software skills.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, healthcare, communications, or related field or (4+ years of equivalent experience can be substituted for the degree requirement) 
  • 3+ years of development experience in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting corporate/foundation prospects and at least three years of grant writing experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Availability for travel (2-3 day trips)
