Canterbury Park is looking for an energetic individual to join our marketing team as a Graphic Design & Social Media Intern. The right candidate must have graphic design experience, strong communication skills, organizational skills and an eye for detail. The Graphic Design & Social Media Intern is responsible for the design and layout of both digital and print assets, social media strategy, and social media management. Candidate must be a self-starter who takes the initiative and is willing to learn. Responsible for supporting the Companies mission, vision, and values by providing fun and games like no place else, and adheres to the Canterbury Way by focusing on our core values.

This internship will be approximately 40 hours per week and the expectation is for this internship to last for 4-6 months.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn to communicate concepts clearly and concisely through visual, verbal and written means. 
  • Learn how to layout promotional elements and copy in a variety of different spaces. 
  • Understand the importance of adhering to strict deadlines, manage time and projects. 
  • Develop a working knowledge of the design process including the ability to create and develop concepts, integrate feedback and carry projects through to the production process. 
  • Develop a working knowledge of digital marketing industry including the ability to manage company presence on social media platforms using company tone and voice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example. 
  • Responsible for maintaining a high degree of hospitality, as well as a positive and professional demeanor at all times. 
  • Creates high levels of morale, fosters teamwork, inspires collaboration, and provides suggestions for growth to management. 
  • Design creative promotional materials using Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, including infield electronic board advertisements, internal digital signage, wayfinding signage, flyers, email and website graphics featuring key Canterbury Park promotions using approved logos, graphics, and text. 
  • Assist with Social Media Strategy, write copy, schedule, and respond to questions on posts and direct message. 
  • Assist with photography/videography of events as needed. 
  • Assist with live racing giveaways and promotions on busy days.

Supervision: None

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop. 
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines. 
  • Must be able to attain a Minnesota Racing Commission (MRC) license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pursuing or has acquired a 2 or 4 year degree in graphic design or equivalent experience in a similar industry. 
  • Social media knowledge/experience. 
  • General knowledge of horse racing or casino. 
  • Familiarity with Adobe After Effects.
