Waukesha County is looking to hire up one Graphic Design Intern. Position works a minimum of 18 hours/week and maximum of 40 hours/week from June 12-August 6, 2023. Weekday hours are between 8am-4:30pm.

Example of Duties:

1. Assist in developing content for marketing and advertising promotional activities according to marketing plan (e.g., social media, videos, collateral, email marketing, customer newsletter graphics, internal communications, and web)

2. Support the Public Communication team in daily administrative tasks:

  • Update Waukesha County Parks events to website
  • Create and post events to Facebook accounts for Retzer Nature Center (RNC), Waukesha County Parks (WCP)
  • Share partner events to Facebook accounts for RNC, WCP
  • Update WaukeshaCounty.gov/ParkAlerts

3. Review and provide recommendations for improvement to current marketing plan

4. Design custom donation, park, and marketing signage

5. Adhere to brand guidelines and complete projects on deadlines

6. Use graphic design software and work with a variety of media

7. Review new marketing concepts and create mockups using computer software programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

8. Provide feedback on design concepts created by others

9. Create layouts for advertisements, brochures, magazines, and other printed materials

10. Create visual designs that communicate messages effectively using a variety of methods, such as color, typography, imagery, and layout

11. Measure and report the results of marketing initiatives

12. Work with cross-functional teams as part of our marketing department to support various Departmental initiatives

Essential Knowledge and Abilities:

1. Basic knowledge of layouts, typography, line composition, color, and other graphic design fundamentals

2. Experience with InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator

3. Strong creative and analytical skills

4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff and the public.

5. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

6. Ability to speak and write effectively.

7. Ability to keep records and make reports.

8. Ability to assist in maintenance of financial records and accounts in accordance with established policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school graduation or GED equivalent.

2. Must possess a valid Driver's License.

3. Education and experience in graphic and visual design

4. Pursuing a degree in graphic design or related field.

5. Applied understanding of basic marketing principles

6. Proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)

7. Familiarity with major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.)

8. Creative problem-solving skills

9. Self-starter with ability to work independently

10. Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Training and Experience:

1. Previous experience in graphic design, marketing and public communication is desirable.

Position is classified as Intern $14.58-$18.49/hour, depending on qualifications.
