The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), a national not-for-profit association, established in 1863 and representing over 95,000 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services, is seeking a Graphic Designer to join our Marketing & Communications team located in our headquarters office in Schaumburg, IL. Structured to work for its members, AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership and for the profession. Our mission is to lead the profession by advocating for our members and advancing the science and practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal and human health.

Reporting to the Manager of Creative Services and as a part of the creative team, the Graphic Designer is responsible for creating print and digital design assets across a variety of channels (print and digital ads, brochures, web pages, presentations, signage, social posts, tradeshow materials, etc.) for the Association. The Graphic Designer will serve as the creative lead on assigned projects and will be responsible for the entire creative process from conceptualization to implementation for those projects. Less than 5% travel.

To be successful in this role, you must be highly collaborative and passionate about AVMA’s mission and increasing member satisfaction and engagement. Additional qualifications include:

  • Two to four years of relevant work experience is required, not-for-profit association experience is preferred 
  • BS/BA degree in a related field of study; or AS degree with equivalent experience 
  • Must have strong typographic skills, multipage layout skills, and an understanding of how to use print software to create digital assets 
  • Hands-on skills in Adobe Creative Cloud Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat are required; knowledge of PC-based workflow preferred 
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact positively and collaboratively with team members across the Association 
  • Must be creative, with experience using style sheets for multiple page documents 
  • Detail oriented and able to handle multiple deadlines and priorities 
  • Must function well both autonomously and as a member of the creative team 
  • Excellent time management and project management skills are required
