The Greater Milwaukee Convention and Visitors Bureau, D.B.A. VISIT Milwaukee, is a private, non-profit corporation formed in 1967. As the main destination marketing organization (DMO) for the greater Milwaukee area, our primary goal is representing and promoting Greater Milwaukee as a premier destination for major conventions, corporate meetings, group tours, and business and leisure travelers. Our goal of increasing visitor and meeting generated revenue is achieved through sophisticated and integrated sales, services, marketing, and public relations programs geared to local, regional, national and international target markets. Through this process, VISIT Milwaukee is able to reach new and existing markets to increase visitors and economic impact to Greater Milwaukee.

The graphic designer coordinates efforts related to design production, communication with partners and tracking of department initiatives. Assists the graphic design manager with design projects to include in-house advertising and marketing media, both print and electronic, as well as photography and video projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Graphic Design Support
  • Assist with production of design projects, to include information gathering, editing, proofing, typesetting, graphic design and layout and printing of VISIT Milwaukee publications and projects.
  • Design projects as assigned including but not limited to e-newsletters, evites, invitations, brochures, presentations, signage, electronic and print media, etc. for various customer groups, including meeting planners, partners, and leisure travelers.
  • Provide project management for internal/external marketing jobs, creative briefs and special projects to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Assist with resizing print ads for media publication inserts, electronic banner ads, etc. as needed.
  • Prepare appropriate files/materials for printers/vendors.Provide photography and video production and acquisition support as needed.
  • Assist with maintenance and organization of image and video libraries.
  • Assist with ensuring that all materials and creative uphold brand standards.
  • Other duties as assigned by the senior vice president of marketing & communications or graphic design manager to support the marketing department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required education and experience:

  • A minimum of an associate degree with focus on graphic design, or,
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training that would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the successful performance of the essential job duties.
  • Minimum three years of design and/or marketing experience.
  • Must demonstrate previous marketing and design experience via portfolio.
  • Prior experience in a marketing department or ad agency preferred.

Required skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of basic marketing principles.
  • Understanding of developing creative strategy and design execution for different target audiences.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to self-proof work.
  • Demonstrated print and web design skills.
  • Knowledge of design industry best practices and usage of brand identify.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates proficiency inthe following:
  1. Color theory and color relationshipsAdherence to brand standardsProficiency in a variety of design styles and media
  2. Keen knowledge of paper, color process,and commercial print processing
  3. Knowledge of typography
  4. Perspective and space relationships
  • Page composition and grid structures
  • Proven photography experience and skills a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with internal and external clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet short term and long term deadlines.
  • Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends as requested.
