We’re looking for an Internal Communications Manager who can take initiative and be a team player, and can be both strategic and tactical. We need someone to help engage more effectively with our large, dispersed workforce. You’ll have an integral role in integrating internal communication throughout the organization, developing metrics, and analyzing systems and communication channels to drive culture. You will apply your expertise in internal communications to support the development of policies, procedures, and programs within Goodwill.

RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:

Implements and may provide input into strategic goals for organization and partnering closely with Senior and Executive Leadership, Office of the President, Marketing, business units and other enterprise stakeholders to develop internal messaging tailored to multiple audiences. Oversees execution of comprehensive, multi-channel internal communications programs aligned with strategic priorities to drive awareness, business performance, reinforce organizational culture and team member engagement among internal stakeholders. Applies expertise in internal communications to support the development of policies, procedures, and programs. Has familiarity with the internal communications budget and may provide input into spending decisions, particularly as pertains to vendors, systems, and projects. Typically works on projects and initiatives that span 12 months – 2 years.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  1. Leading and Developing Talent: May provide training to coworkers or others in the organization.
  2. Project and Change Management: Manages low to moderately complex projects within the department. Articulates intended outcomes, effectively plans work for self and others, gives direction, resolves issues, and holds other accountable. May serve in formal project roles such as team member or subject matter expert. Engages effectively in change affecting her/him, communicating appropriately with supervisor. Follows through on learning, skill building, and practice necessary to adapt to change. Assesses impact when managing projects. Communicates effectively with stakeholders. Plan appropriately to meet the needs of impacted individuals.
  3. Problem Solving: Light supervision; works independently. Work review limited to final product. Solves highly complex problems. Identifies key barriers/core problems and applies problem solving skills to deal creatively with complex situations.
  4. Technical Skill: Expert knowledge of particular field of specialization. Advanced knowledge of organization’s technologies and practices.
  5. Community Engagement: Understands social trends driving Goodwill's community engagement initiatives, and champions initiatives. Is aware of Goodwill’s community partner organizations and participates in volunteer opportunities as pertains to role and interest. Participates in industry/knowledge groups.
  6. Leads a community of practice comprised of employees responsible for department messaging to drive the communications workstream for major operational and change initiatives; builds alignment between key stakeholder groups and is responsible for delivering employee communication at all levels across the organization.
  7. Develop a multi-channel strategy that utilizes a variety of delivery platforms such as all-hands meetings, newsletters, internal sales portal, and chat groups.
  8. Develop and execute multi-stage communication plans across a variety of channels and audiences.
  9. Partners with IT and Marketing to administrator for the company intranet; manage, develop and post content, work closely with content owners and service vendor to ensure channel provide maximum effectiveness.
  10. Provide ongoing creative ideas to ensure company messaging is forward-looking, innovative and resonates with the intended audiences.
  11. Fosters relationships across the organization to support different initiatives and leaders through the development of communication materials and strategies.
  12. Partner with members of the Marketing team around organizational brand standards and alignment and with Community Relations to ensure that community engagement initiatives are shared with employees and integrated into internal messaging.
  13. Manage enterprise-wide internal communications editorial calendar. Develop and manage communication plans detailing deliverables, owners, and deadlines.
  14. Distill change impacts into crisp, user-friendly communications including emails, frequently asked questions (FAQs), videos, how-to guides, presentations, and articles.
  15. Track and report content effectiveness metrics to internal stakeholders, as well as continually monitor, analyze and tune messaging to maximize impact.
  16. Provide well-written, researched, validated, clear, consistent business communications on a range of topics that span company announcements, leadership communication, meeting presentations, multimedia, scripts, key messages, and talking points.
  17. Seek out and analyze employee feedback mechanisms and interpret data to recommend improvements and best practices.
  18. Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Associates Degree or experience equivalency, and a minimum of 7 years’ experience.
  2. Ability to drive innovative internal communication strategies that engage employees across multiple platforms (intranet, video, digital monitors and newsletters, event postings, presentations, etc.).
  3. Experience working with senior leadership and executives to provide communication counsel and act as trusted resource.
  4. Track record of driving cultural change and influencing organizations through communications.
  5. Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively address and engage all levels within the organization, and communicate and articulate clear, effective messages that enhance and promote the mission, goals, and business objectives of the company.
  6. Experience with email communications and measurement systems, intranet platforms, content management systems, and other technologies designed to support internal communication strategies.
  7. Must be an effective communicator, strong collaborator, the ability to influence, and build our internal communications capabilities.
  8. Effectively handle pressures and demands from multiple customers and competing priorities.
  9. Demonstrable experience developing creative, effective approaches to difficult communications challenges.
  10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
