JOB SUMMARY:

This position is a key part of the communications team, demonstrating expertise in building out and supporting our internal messaging. As an experienced communicator, you’ll be a champion of our College’s unified voice, helping us achieve collective uplift through the way we strategically talk about Gustavus and what makes our community so special. The internal/executive communications role will serve as a main contact within our communications team for departmental and executive leads, forging strong relationships while providing strategic counsel and key messages. Your work will help elevate our brand as leaders speak to prospective and current students and families, donors, sponsors, and supporters across the region. You will work closely with our marketing and communications team, finding ways to collaborate and build an authentic voice that we’ll collectively use across our media channels.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to a growing, high-performing team while promoting a strong culture of collaboration, excellence and accountability.
  • Lead the development and execution of Gustavus Adolphus’ internal communications strategy.
  • Meet with departmental leadership to build relationships and be their main point of contact within the communications department.
  • Build out communications plans for respective departments, using unified voice to help streamline content and messaging across campus.
  • Create and lead a communications calendar that serves as a main resource for identifying and aligning internal communications.
  • Oversee and send Marketing & Communications emails to our varying email lists.
  • Write key messages on behalf of Gustavus leaders in advance of speaking engagements or presentations to ensure aligned messaging.
  • Work closely with Public Relations Manager to use internal communications messaging when building out briefs for media opportunities.
  • Oversee and write content for Intranet, including articles and recaps.
  • Build PPTs for upcoming presentations on behalf of MarComm team or for executive leadership team.
  • Collaborate with social media and marketing partners to provide seamless content across all mediums.
  • Update areas of Gustavus website and play a role in overseeing back-end CMS functionality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education/Training: Degree in journalism, public relations, strategic communications, English or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of paid industry experience in a related field.
  • Writing: Proficiency in AP style.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Office products including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Website Experience: Background Content Management Systems (e.g. Drupal, WordPress).
  • Email Communications: Experience with drafting and sending emails to internal lists.
  • Social Media and Emotional Storytelling: Experience creating short-form content (e.g., social media posts) and content that conveys emotional storytelling.
  • Business Mindset: Understanding of how creative content is used and conveyed through key messaging and executive counsel, with an emphasis on brand and messaging.
  • Independence: Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage projects from start to finish.
  • Creative and Detail-Oriented: A creative mindset with a keen eye for detail.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and partners.
  • Time Management: Ability to work under tight deadlines, manage multiple projects, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
