The Consultant, Internal Communications is responsible for designing, executing and leading internal communications programs that elevate Optum Rx’s reputation and connection with employees, specifically in support of the Optum Rx Integrated Pharmacy business.

This position is responsible for creating and executing broad-based and stakeholder-specific communication programs and messaging, which includes leveraging tools, processes and feedback effectively. This position will interface with management and subject matter experts and will be a member of and contribute to the broader Optum corporate communications team. Working with partners across marketing, human capital, Optum's varied business segments and others, they will ensure communications programs are closely and consistently aligned with Optum Rx’s overall business goals and core values.

This professional must have a strong interest in and understanding of health care as well as a desire to be part of an organization committed to helping make health care work better for everyone. Working closely with Optum Rx Integrated Pharmacy, they will serve a broad range of internal clients, including senior leadership, providing consistently high levels of proactive support, strategic thinking and strong execution.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a communications partner to the Optum Rx Integrated Pharmacy leadership team and other business stakeholders 
  • Work with Optum Rx communications leadership to develop, implement and continually evaluate high-impact communications programs that directly support Optum Rx Integrated Pharmacy and broader Optum business objectives 
  • Support and lead the execution of strategic programs targeting team members in the many kinds of value and innovation Optum Rx brings to the health system 
  • Collaborate daily with fellow Optum communications leaders and teammates to advance the broader Optum reputation, brand awareness and marketplace value story 
  • Analyze audience needs and business goals to recommend appropriate channels and tactics. Proactively seek out and promote new avenues for communication efforts or improve current efforts 
  • Development and coordination of communications to Optum Rx Integrated Pharmacy team members, establishing consistency in approach and alignment with external messages 
  • Use quantitative and qualitative measurement/evaluation processes to assess the effectiveness of communications (e.g., web and email analytics, surveys, focus groups, site visits, direct feedback) 
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders and other communications colleagues to strengthen various internal multi-media communication channels (e.g., Hub, Hub Connect, digital signage, etc.)

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience 
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in Corporate Communications and/or Public Relations 
  • Track record of results in developing and driving communications programs that elevate and protect brand reputation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in health care industries 
  • Experience and proven aptitude in a fast-paced, complex environment 
  • Ability to understand complex subject matter and translate it into compelling, relatable messages for specific audiences 
  • Ability and motivation to actively collaborate with teammates, senior executives and other internal stakeholders in ways that build trust and highly productive relationships 
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills 
  • Exceptional time management, organizational and project planning/management skills
