Position Summary:

TCF’s Corporate Affairs organization seeks an experienced internal communications professional to support the cultural, engagement and strategic objectives of the company. The ideal candidate is skilled at crafting communication strategy and executing refined communication tactics that inspire engagement and action.

The ideal candidate will be an outstanding writer and communicator with substantial experience creating content for senior level executives within a corporate or agency environment. Required technical skills include strong proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, and PowerPoint. Video production, familiarity with graphic design software (Adobe InDesign, PhotoShop and Illustrator) and design skills a plus. Must have strong and proven written/oral/visual communication skills, emotional intelligence, creativity, and be a great collaborator. This position will interact with all levels of the organization and serve as advisor to senior leaders while developing coordinated change-management strategies that help key audiences understand, adopt and live the vision, mission and values of TCF.

Critical success factors include the ability to help lead and manage consistent messaging during a time of significant change, influencing and advocating for clear and consistent communication that helps to promote shared understanding and employee engagement, and an ability to collaborate in an environment where roles and structure may not always be fully defined.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Plan, organize and implement communications initiatives that inform and inspire team members while strengthening team member engagement. 
  • Work with TCF business units and functional partners to develop, manage and execute integrated internal communications plans that fulfill corporate and brand communication objectives. 
  • Partner closely with the Human Capital organization to develop programs and plans that enhance culture, position TCF as an employer of choice and create shared understanding of the company’s strategy and purpose. 
  • Play a major role in leading change and partnering to design and execute change management plans and programs. 
  • Create and distribute internal communications through a variety of channels. 
  • Develop and execute tactics aligned to Corporate Communications strategy that enhance internal communications initiatives, including areas such as; company goals and objectives, corporate brand and customer experience, employee engagement, volunteerism and philanthropic endeavors. 
  • Collaborate with key internal partners to develop tactics that support their work. 
  • Collaborate on an intranet to make TCF’s corporate site a dynamic source of information. Oversee development and publication of intranet content and the design and creation of best-in-class communication tools.

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree

Required Work Experience / Skills:

  • 5+ years’ experience in internal communications, including strategic development, planning and implementation of corporate communications programs. 
  • Project management experience a plus. 
  • Exceptional writing skills to develop effective internal announcements and website content. 
  • Familiar with communication-related design software (InDesign, Publisher, Photoshop, PowerPoint). 
  • Tactical, hands-on experience developing company messages, including presentations. 
  • Demonstrated experience writing for senior executives with a focus on synthesizing complex concepts and information into clear, cogent messages. 
  • Experience with Office 365 and SharePoint. 
  • Experience with change communication strategy and tactics. 
  • Experience with Human Resources communication strategy and tactics.

Preferred Work Experience / Skills:

  • Experience in crisis/issues management 
  • Web content management and social media experience
