BAIRD INTERN PROGRAM:

Our intern program is a robust experience that offers interns exposure to the business world and a meaningful work experience. Interns have the opportunity to take a paid day off to do volunteer work in the community through our “Baird Cares” program and are eligible to apply for $10,000 in scholarships. Our informal mentor program gives interns an opportunity to network throughout Baird and learn about all areas of the firm. Baird’s summer intern program includes an Intern Welcome Event in our corporate office, multiple Lunch & Learns, FUEL Milwaukee events, a Brewer’s game at Miller Park, Baird Night at the Zoo, and many other informal events.

SUMMARY:

Robust internal and external communications and effective media relations are vital components of Baird’s commitment to being a great place to work and strong brand. This individual works directly with Baird’s Communications and Public Relations teams in planning, developing and implementing programs and efforts to effectively communicate Baird’s messages both internally and externally. Strong writing, organizational and intrapersonal skills required. Must have a passion for media relations and communicating through written word, enjoy teamwork and excel at handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

DUTIES:

  • Assists with Baird’s overall communications efforts, helping research, write and implement internal news stories, associate announcements, presentations and other communications. 
  • Assists with Baird’s overall media relations efforts, helping create news releases and other media correspondence, developing media lists, tracking coverage, reprint coordination, web site news section and Public Relations Calendar maintenance. 
  • Helps ensure communication style, PR approach and messages are consistent with Baird’s practices, culture and brand. 
  • Writes copy for additional marketing and communications initiatives. 
  • Performs other duties in support of team, department and firm projects and activities. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRMENTS:

  • Junior status or above working toward a degree in Journalism, Communications or Public Relations. Also must have completed class work in one or more of the following: journalism, public relations, marketing communications, advertising, writing for business. 
  • Strong writing, editing, communication and time management skills. 
  • Must be a strategic thinker, a quick study and deliver strong customer service. 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products. 
  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) and/or intranets a plus. 
  • Prior communications or PR internship experience preferred.

HOURS:

  • Part-time during the school semester - 16-24 hours per week. 
  • Full-time during the summer - 37.5 hours per week.
