The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for securing philanthropic support for the SPCO by building strong relationships with donors, aligning their interests with giving opportunities, and encouraging ongoing and increased engagement. This role manages a portfolio of major donors and prospects, with a focus on securing significant annual fund gifts, special project funding, and major endowment commitments. Through personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies, the Major Gifts Officer ensures donor retention and growth while advancing the organization's mission.

Specific Duties to include:

  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of at least 125 major donors and prospects.
  • Create and manage individual goals for each person on the caseload.
  • Create a plan for each donor that is driven by that donor’s passions, interests, and communication preferences, and execute that plan.
  • Secure appropriate program information, including budgets, and create offers, proposals and asks.
  • Attend concerts and events as needed in order to develop relationships with donors and prospects.
  • Accurately track data in AudienceView database.
  • Analyze fundraising data and contribute to discussions around fundraising strategy with colleagues.
  • Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Results-orientation
  • Minimum two years professional experience in nonprofit development, business development, or sales
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, time management skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as a collaborative member of a team
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Desired Qualifications:

  • Background and interest in classical music or the arts
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience using a database or fundraising software; experience in AudienceView a plus

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong proofreading skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to travel frequently and independently in the Twin Cities metro area
  • Must be a resident of the State of Minnesota or be willing to relocate prior to starting the position
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check

Salary Description:

$78,000 - 82,000 annually
