United's Marketing and Loyalty team is the strategic force behind United’s industry-leading brand and experience, supporting revenue growth by turning customers into lifelong United flyers. Our Loyalty team manages United MileagePlus®, building travel and lifestyle partnerships that customers can engage with every day, and works with our Star Alliance partners to ensure United can take you anywhere you want to go.

Key Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the development and delivery of targeted marketing programs and promotions which drive member engagement and incremental transportation revenue and profitability for United Airlines and the MileagePlus loyalty program. Responsible for marketing programs from strategy through execution, measurement, and reporting.

The individual works with partners to understand the commercial strategies to support or business problems to be solved. Once there is a detailed understanding, they set effective marketing strategies, build tactical plans, and successfully implement marketing communications, integrated over email, direct mail and alternative channels. This position works with many internal and external teams, from IT to agency partners, to deliver upon those strategies.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent skills in leadership, communications and project management, and possess a strong dedication to quality. This role calls for someone who can create solutions and thrive in a constantly evolving environment.

  • Partner with collaborators in Pricing, Revenue Management, Loyalty, Ancillary, Campaign Analytics, international marketing teams and others as needed to develop marketing strategies and plans that will drive customer purchase, engagement, satisfaction, loyalty and long-term value 
  • Continue to develop an effective, efficient marketing team; support marketing best practices, loyalty industry standard processes and Mileage Plus findings. 
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external collaborators and groups by demonstrating marketing leadership, promoting teamwork, encouraging a team environment and promoting Voice of Customer 
  • Manage marketing requests and resources to gain marketing efficiencies 
  • Leverage technology solutions to continuously deliver engaging creative and enhanced direct targeting 
  • Ensure campaigns are effectively targeted in order to deliver highly relevant offers to customer groups and to appropriately handle audience overlap from various promotions 
  • Drive in-market tests with defined test and control cells to continually learn and improve ROI results 
  • Incorporate findings into future plans 
  • Serve as subject matter expert, advisor and agency liaison for special projects 
  • Communicate program status and results to key internal and external collaborators, as appropriate

Note: This is a Chicago-based, hybrid position.

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business and Economics 
  • Experience working with marketing agencies, vendors, and service providers, 
  • 5+ years of direct marketing experience 
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project skills 
  • Targeted marketing strategy and execution, integrated across email, direct mail and digital channels 
  • Punctual attendance is an essential function of the position 
  • Strategic problem solver, with the ability to clearly articulate and implement plans 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment 
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing and evolving business requirements and objectives 
  • Experience with successfully coordinating and managing small- to large-scale projects from creation through implementation 
  • Excellent written, presentation, interpersonal, and people-influencing skills 
  • Enjoys working across multiple business units and functional areas to achieve goals 
  • Ability to collaborate and gain alignment cross-functionally and manage conflicts 
  • Ability to develop and retain a highly effective team 
  • Manage team members to successfully deliver on program goals 
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • 2+ years of airline or travel industry experience 
  • Experience with Sales Force Marketing Cloud or similar Campaign Management software
