ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Manager of Marketing and Communications will be a proactive, creative individual who is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the agency communications and marketing initiatives. This position requires a basic understanding of the youth, families, and communities served by Lawrence Hall and willingness to learn about trauma-informed approaches. This individual will support the agency's annual fundraising efforts through marketing and communications and must attend functions and special events that occur during evenings and weekends. Must be willing to travel to all agency locations including Albany Park, South Shore and Greater Grand Crossing, and offsite event locations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marketing and Communications

  • Oversee all aspects of the annual fundraising, marketing, and online communications calendar in partnership with the Vice President of Development. 
  • Develop and implement marketing and communication strategies that increase awareness and recognition of Lawrence Hall. 
  • Identify and utilize audience engagement to communicate, impact, and drive engagement. 
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Development and senior management team to implement and evaluate the Crisis Communication Plan.

Graphic Design & Web Support

  • Oversee all aspects of creative management and production of the agency's numerous and wide-ranging external print and digital collateral, including but not limited to the agency's annual report, direct mail, e-marketing, seasonal appeal campaigns, the agency programs' materials, and event collateral. 
  • Maintain brand consistency and cohesive messaging across the agency's digital and print applications. 
  • Serve as the primary website administrator for the agency's WordPress website and update and build relevant pages and blog posts using basic HTML code and custom graphics.

Content Development

  • Gather, write, and edit compelling content for marketing collateral and blog posts. 
  • Monitor, maintain and continually evaluate all digital content including, but not limited to, agency website, blog posts, social media platforms, and Lawrence Hall content on affiliated websites.

Media and PR

  • Develop relationships with and monitor various media outlets in order to acquire positive publicity for the agency and its employees with respect to children, youth, and family-related issues. 
  • Manage all social media platforms creating graphics and content that promote the agency's mission, events, programs and initiatives, both organic and through paid social media advertisements.

Staff Supervision and Support

  • Support and supervise Marketing & Communications Coordinator in social media management, design, content development and marketing data analytics. 
  • Attend, assist, and document agency functions and special events. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of employees, volunteers, and program participants

Event Support

  • Help create and manage event communications, website and program content 
  • Attend and work at agency functions and special events

In-Kind & Individual Fundraising

  • Assist Development Manager with gift in-kind management, including identifying new opportunities that will help support the agency needs, including but not limited to the annual Holiday Wish List Drive and Back to School Supply Drives. 
  • Help manage and research projects for direct mail and online individual fundraising efforts 
  • Assist with sending special notifications to donors and other stakeholders

Other

  • Attend at least two trainings related to being trauma-informed in a twelve-month period
  • Other duties as assigned

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years relevant experience in non-profit marketing and communications. 
  • Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and WordPress. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as weekend and evening work may be required. 
  • Proven track record of creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, innovation, and an eagerness to be involved and take on new challenges. 
  • Ability to work effectively with program participants, families, employees, and vendors in a culturally diverse environment to build strong relationships and support healing and recovery. 
  • Ability to provide effective verbal and written communication. 
  • Ability to plan work to meet required deadlines. 
  • Uses active and reflective listening skills and affirmations to demonstrate respect and empathy, avoiding negative and derogatory labels that foster disrespect. 
  • Ability to lift/carry 25 lbs. 
  • No history of child abuse or neglect. 
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Raiser's Edge NXT/Blackbaud or other fundraising databases. 
  • Knowledge of video editing and Adobe Premier Pro. 
  • Understanding of childhood trauma and positive youth development/strength-based approaches. 
  • Prior experience working in settings with youth and families that have been exposed to trauma or experiencing traumatic stress. 
  • Valid Illinois/Wisconsin/Indiana Driver's license.
