The MD, Employee Communications, is responsible for developing and driving strategy and execution of timely, relevant and engaging communications to BCBSA employees and BCBS Plan associates. This role provides oversight and accountability for a variety of communications deliverables, translating the needs of senior leadership and key stakeholders and providing connections between work streams to ensure consistent messages and optimize opportunities to communicate across audiences. The MD is also responsible for strategy and execution of special internal communications projects as needed. The MD also oversees communications coordination with key stakeholders from across BCBSA to inform employee communications and collaborates with BCBSA’s digital and content teams to build and execute comprehensive communications strategies.

The MD leads a team of communicators who support specific communications work streams and deliverables:

  • Communication campaigns to BCBSA associates across multiple delivery channels (e.g., digital content, newsletter, printed collateral, events, meetings and message toolkits), aligned with BCBSA Human Resources and other departments/divisions that educate and engage BCBSA associates 
  • Communications to Plans on the strategic initiatives driven by BCBSA on behalf of the BCBS System (e.g., newsletters, in-person meetings, extranet)

Day to Day Responsibilites:

  • Develops coordinated strategy for Employee Communications (Plan-facing and internal) to bring impactful messaging about the BCBS System and BCBSA to all audiences 
  • Leads a team of communicators focused on tailored work streams and deliverables and ensures excellence in implementation of communications strategies and execution of deliverables; provides direction and ensures coordination between work streams 
  • Edits and executes specific elements of communications strategies and deliverables across all work streams and audiences (i.e., written communications, newsletters, digital content) 
  • Serves as leader in Strategic Communications, driving alignment and coordinated communications approach with other functions 
  • Supports the writing, editing and proofreading of additional strategic communications deliverables as needed 
  • Demonstrated excellence at written communications, with an ability to identify, research, write, produce and coordinate clear, succinct, vivid text for articles and website copy; ability to grasp complex issues and translate them into easily understood concepts 
  • Superior editing skills that improve and enhance written communications, including command of grammar/punctuation, style and format 
  • Demonstrated skill at building effective teams, creating strong team morale while empowering team members to be responsible for their work 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and sustain relationships at all levels of the organization, with a consistent focus on meeting the expectations of internal customers/clients

Required Field(s) of Study: Journalism, communications, social science, public relations or related field

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • 8-10 years of communications experience 
  • Experience managing people/teams 
  • Mastery of communication strategies and ability to accurately plan for necessary scope and length of projects 
  • Mastery of communication principles, methods, practices and techniques. Including multimedia and digital internal communications 
  • Data-driven approach to communications and ability to measure using different tools and metrics 
  • Robust understanding of communications aimed at employee engagement 
  • Change management expertise
