Working Environment:
Work is performed in a pleasant, professional, creative, open office environment, with business casual attire. Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours and will average 2,300 hours per year. Great flexibility in your schedule is both required of you and returned to you due to our many project deadlines and evening events. Out of town travel is expected to be infrequent, with the exception of frequent travel to our Madison office.

The Marketing & Business Development (BD) Manager role is part of the centralized Client Services (CS) Team. This team supports marketing, PR, outreach, new business development (NBD), client retention, and graphics services. This role will work closely with the leaders of our growing Business Environments (BE) team, which focuses on corporate, hospitality, multi-family housing, and other privately-financed capital projects. The primary responsibility is to guide the development, organization and implementation of marketing, client retention and NBD strategies and tactics; starting with the development of an annual business and marketing plan, and continuing through the tactical implementation of marketing research, the writing of speaking submissions, strategizing proposals, organizing client retention activities, etc. Additionally, the BE team is seeking direct assistance to help them build relationships in their various target markets.
The Marketing & BD Manager role requires extremely strong organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills. This fast-paced position requires a self-directed, detail-oriented individual with great client service and relationship building skills and a hands-on approach, who possesses a high degree of confidence and effectiveness advising on marketing matters.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities (Supporting BE):
- Guide the development and organization of the marketing plan with BE leaders
- Manage and track the progress of the marketing plan and the responsibilities of team members
- Lead the execution of key marketing strategies
- Network with other industry BD professionals to establish rapport, gather information and create referral relationships
- Through networking, identify, qualify and develop business opportunities for the BE team
- Take a leadership role in one or more industry organizations in order to network
- Get to know the existing BE client base
- Organize marketing and new business development meetings
- Provide direction to, and assist in, market research and the qualifying of leads
- Take the initiative to understand projects, client types and market demands
- Collaboratively lead the development of proposal strategy, content and the development of presentation materials for interviews
- Manage lead tracking and follow-up system
- Work closely with BE leaders to set strategies for new business development presentations
- Promote opportunities to position our thought leaders/leadership
- Artfully compose proposals (writing, editing, and production) when needed
- Review fee proposal letters
- Oversee the BE client relationship database
- Maintain a fundamental understanding of the firm’s/team’s reputation; conduct client satisfaction surveys
- Advising/editing of all BE team marketing materials
- Keep current on trends by attending appropriate seminars, reading published information and through participation in professional organizations
- Assist others on the CS team as needed and other duties as assigned (especially relating to fulfilling the marketing needs for the firm)
Working Relationships and Scope:
- Reports to the Director of Client Services
- Works daily with BE leaders and staff
- Manages the work of a Marketing Coordinator
- Interacts regularly with internal and external clients
