Position Overview:

The Part-time Marketing and Communication Photographer shoots high quality digital images, as requested, to meet the university’s needs for marketing, web, digital and communication initiatives, including social media. This position collaborates closely with the creative directors to ensure photography needs are met, and works with the editorial, web and graphic design staff to bring initiatives and creative items from conception to completion. The Part-time Marketing and Communication Photographer updates university photography files of campus locations, buildings, faculty, staff and students and serves as a main resource for an online photo database and works with student employees to ensure correct classifications and image details. In collaboration with creative directors, this individual develops a recognizable university photo style to become an element in the university’s visual identity. In partnership with creative directors, this position coordinates the recruitment and oversight of freelance photographers, as needed.

Of particular focus for the role will be to manage photography for high-profile university events, programs and activities of students, faculty, staff and alumni to be used for university communication, publications, marketing materials and advertising campaigns. To facilitate the coordination and usage of such imagery, the role will manage photography assets, equipment, software and space dedicated to photography production needs. In addition, it is anticipated the role will mentor student interns in capturing such photography.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. In collaboration with creative directors, manage strategic direction for university photography, prioritizing needs and defining the visual direction in alignment with brand standards as well as best practices for communication and content.
  2. Manage photography for high-profile campus events, programs and activities of students, faculty, staff and alumni that have a marketing or communication function.
  3. Assist with photography for use inMarquette Todayand other key university communication vehicles, including social media.
  4. Direct strategy for getting headshots of faculty and staff, including managing a system of scheduled photo shoots at a regular interval throughout the year.
  5. Assist with photography for use inMarquette Magazine, Discover, A&S, Comm, Biz, Health Sciences, Education, EngineerandNurse,as directed by creative directors.
  6. Assist with photography for use in marketing materials, including website, advertising, marketing collateral and digital signage, etc.
  7. Collaborate and meet regularly withOMCteams to coordinate efforts, meet needs and maximize impact of photography.
  8. Manage photo assets in accordance withOMCprocesses, including filing, storing, tagging and organization.
  9. Manage logistics of photography shoots, including scheduling and coordination, resource planning, copyright and subject agreements, and/or budgets if needed.
  10. Manage and maintain photography equipment, software and space, including storage, digital assets and equipment use by staff and interns.
  11. Manage and mentor student photography interns.
  12. Counsel and leadOMCcolleagues and university partners in best practices for photography.
  13. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree 
  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of photography experience.

Requires proficiency in: 

  • Creative and artistic judgement for visual communications across all media 
  • Best practices in photography techniques, editing and production 

Requires a working knowledge of: 

  • High-end digital photography equipment, including cameras, lens, lighting, etc. 
  • Adobe Creative Suite, especially Adobe Photoshop 
  • Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Microsoft One Drive and SharePoint 
  • Apple computer and MacOS operating system 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of one year professional photo experience in an educational or professional facility preferred.
