Headway Emotional Health Services' mission is to help you, your children, and your family back on the path toward emotionally healthy lives. We know what we’re doing: With more than 40 years in operation, our 200-plus staff members in Richfield, Brooklyn Center, and Hopkins provide comprehensive mental health therapy and classes to more than 20,000 families each year.

Since 1970, Headway has provided essential emotional health services to children, families, and individuals in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. As a recognized community leader, we help people overcome issues such as mental health concerns, emotional and behavioral challenges, isolation, addiction, child abuse and neglect, physical and sexual abuse, and troubles with parenting and relationships.

Headway Emotional Health Services seeks an innovative and dynamic self-starter to assist marketing and communications efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to get experience of various aspects of marketing while working for a mission-driven, community-based nonprofit organization. This is an unpaid, remote and flexible internship of 12 to 15 hours per week and requires a 3 to 6 month commitment.

Internship responsibilities:

  • Assist with updating and maintaining social media presence, including use of scheduling platform 
  • Assist in planning and writing monthly eNewsletter 
  • Assist with the design of flyers, graphics, and other marketing materials needed by Headway Emotional Health Team Members 
  • Assist with updating the Headway Emotional Health Services website as needed 
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications.
  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space 
  • Working toward a career in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations) 
  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel). 
  • An effective communicator, both written and oral. 
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner 
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines 
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of Headway Emotional Health Services and the communities we serve
