EMERGE’s Marketing & Communications Manager tells EMERGE’s story in engaging and compelling ways to increase awareness and support for the agency’s programs and services. This position manages all aspects of communications, including print and electronic communications, website development, social media, event planning, and media outreach. The Marketing & Communications Manager is a member of the Advancement Team (Marketing, Development, and Data & Evaluation) and reports to the VP of Advancement. This is a hybrid position, which offices at EMERGE’s headquarters in North Minneapolis.

The Marketing & Communications Manager performs a wide range of duties including but not limited to the following:

  • Create and develop various marketing and communications materials and campaigns for broad audiences to increase awareness, participation and support for EMERGE. Develop impactful ways of sharing EMERGE’s story. Measure impact of marketing and communications activities. 
  • Work closely with the Development Coordinator to plan and promote EMERGE’s annual donor event. Partner with program staff to identify new ways to engage the communities we serve to increase awareness of EMERGE’s programs and services. 
  • Using WordPress, update and maintain a family of agency websites, ensuring fresh, up-to-date, and engaging content to meet the needs of multiple constituent groups: participants, prospective participants, donors, customers and partners. Serve as lead staff person on agency Intranet, hosted on SharePoint. Research, test, implement, and serve as point person for new technology for the agency. 
  • Create engaging posts and campaigns on EMERGE’s social media channels to increase audience and engagement. Expand media relationships to increase awareness and visibility of EMERGE. 
  • Act as a spokesperson for EMERGE to external community partners and stake holders. 
  • Recruit, hire, lead and support interns and volunteers by providing effective training and supervision that encourages continued professional development and ensures delivery of quality work. 
  • Monitor budgets for the Marketing and Communications area. Manage various contractors related to web development, printing, mailing and events. 
  • Develop and implement marketing and communications policies, practices and procedures necessary to ensure EMERGE’s brand is consistent and professional. 
  • Perform any other tasks and duties necessary in order for the agency to meet its mission.

Education and Experience

  • BA/BS communications, marketing or related field preferred or equivalent combination of post-secondary education and relevant experience. 
  • 2-3 Minimum years of experience in marketing and communications role

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with a passion for story-telling. 
  • Great collaborator who enjoys being part of a team. 
  • Ability to generate and implement creative ideas. 
  • Motivated self-starter with strong planning and project management skills. 
  • Demonstrated skills in setting priorities, developing work schedules, monitoring progress towards goals, and tracking details, data and activities. 
  • Desire to learn best practices related to marketing and communications. 
  • Experience maintaining websites (WordPress preferred), graphic design, digital marketing, and social media management across multiple platforms. 
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a mission-driven agency whose clients and staff reflect significant diversity with respect to race, ethnicity, gender, orientation, socio-economic status, nationality and religion. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.
