ATTENTION:

The Department of University Marketing and Communications at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Marketing and Communications Manager (Communications Manager, CM003).

JOB DETAILS:

The Marketing and Communications Manager plays a key role within University Marketing and Communications (UMC) working with the team's leadership and Assistant Chancellor of Marketing and Communications. This experienced professional serves as a campus-wide marketing resource leading strategies and content development to help accomplish the university's branding, recruitment/retention, community outreach and campus-wide goals. The position reports to the Executive Director for University Marketing and Communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Serves as a leader for the University Marketing and Communications team on key campus priorities and community projects:

  1. Collaborates with other UMC team members, marketing leaders, the campus community and external constituents to plan and develop marketing and communications strategies and deliverables.
  2. Develops, coordinates and oversees select programs and resources to assist campus leaders and colleagues in the marketing, communications and storytelling/positioning of their people, programs and results.
  3. Leads projects as assigned, such as select media relations and publicity initiatives, campus programs, special events, outreach opportunities, etc.
  4. Manages and mentors student employees.

B. Executes storytelling, marketing and communication strategies:

  1. Supports editorial content creation according to established goals and objectives by capturing the UW-Whitewater experience in compelling ways to promote the achievements of students, faculty, staff and alumni.
  2. Interviews sources and develops strong story ideas that can be used to enhance marketing and communications strategies.
  3. Writes and edits marketing and communication materials, including stories, email communications, printed publications, website content, social media posts and other deliverables.
  4. Works closely with departments across campus on project and content creation for enrollment and recruitment marketing deliverables and branding awareness.

C. Provides leadership perspective that drives process and organizational best practices to enhance collaboration across campus and within the various marketing areas.

  1. Manages multiple programs/tasks while serving as a mentor for UMC and campus team members as designated.
  2. Represents University Marketing and Communications in college and campus-wide meetings with the opportunity to grow in further leadership roles.
  3. Offers creative ideas and uses effective problem-solving abilities to respond to both internal and external inquiries through strong verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Takes on department, campus and community projects at the request of the Executive Director and Assistant Chancellor as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree (in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field preferred).
  • Five years of professional work experience that includes significant writing or other content creation in a related environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Marketing guidance that supports the university's mission, values and vision.
  • Dedicated, motivated team leader, who takes on projects, leads them to completion through effective communication and collaboration within cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the strategy, design and execution of marketing, communications, print materials, digital campaigns and public relations activities for campus and outreach marketing.
  • Employs positive interpersonal skills and the ability to forge strong partnerships and relationships across the university, organizational partners and community.
  • Performs duties with a high degree of accuracy, independence and discretion, while keeping the Executive Director for UMC and Assistant Chancellor of Marketing and Communications updated on issues that arise.
  • Strong creative, strategic, research, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Has an ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Serves as an active participant in complying with applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $58,000 - $65,000.
