Under the direction of the Communications Manager, this position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to strengthen the City’s social media efforts and public education efforts. This includes creating content that highlights City/departmental activities and services available to the public through a variety of communications media, education programs and community resources; responds to media requests for information.

Other duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assisting with creating content, editing, coordination of design and production of the City’s print and digital publications, which includes the quarterly newsletter, monthly e-newsletter, department and City marketing pieces, website, intranet, scripts, public programing, and other collateral and media used to promote the City. 
  • Assisting with media inquiries and serving as a backup Public Information Officer (PIO) to Communications Manager as needed and during emergencies. 
  • Performing a mix of routine, complex and confidential public relations tasks in accordance with the City Communications Plan, which can include the coordination and creation of talking points, public relations events, and other tasks related to positively promote the City. 
  • Attending events and takes photos/video of people, events, buildings and other happenings in the City as needed to produce City materials and communications; maintaining the City’s photo library current and organized. 
  • Working with the Communications Manager to develop Key Performance Indicator reports on the City’s Communication initiatives. 
  • Providing data analysis and information from multiple sources to help enable more efficient processes. 
  • Developing and implementing data-driven strategies to optimize marketing campaigns.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or a related field; and two (2) years of professional experience in public relations, communications, journalism, or marketing; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources. 
  • Experience in data-driven marketing strategies is highly preferred. 

The salary range for this position is $72,460 to $101,444; offer will be dependent upon qualifications. Health, Dental, and vision benefits are also included.
