We are excited to add a Marketing and Communications Specialist to our team. The Marketing and Communications Specialist will support day-to-day communications and marketing operations including external and internal messaging, marketing content, public relations, branding, and social media. Our office is located in the Chicago area, however if you are outside the Chicago area, remote opportunities are available.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Develop, design, review, and edit relevant content including press releases, media statements, newsletters, social media posts, talking points, website updates, emails, reports, and other communications and marketing materials.
  • Manage content calendar with potential future engagements, collaborating with departments across the organization and ensuring timely coordination and execution of marketing and communications efforts.
  • Develop and implement effective social media strategies and campaigns, including creating, publishing, and curating content, engaging with audiences, and tracking metrics and performance.
  • Support media relations efforts through responding to requests, managing relationships with members of the news media, coordinating interviews, preparing background information, and other related work in furtherance of achieving positive news coverage for the organization.
  • Facilitate project management workflows using Asana, monitor Material Development Requests, and ensure timely delivery of product milestones and deliverables.
  • Maintain organized records, contact and distribution lists, and creative assets.
  • Leverage monitoring tools to identify trends and analyze the effectiveness of marketing and communications plans and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure consistency with the organization's brand identity and visual and style standards.
  • Support crisis communications efforts as needed to ensure timely and coordinated messaging during security incidents.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, writing, journalism, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, preferably for nonprofit or government organizations required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in editing and proofreading, including the application of Associated Press Style.
  • Experience designing and implementing successful messaging and marketing campaigns using paid, earned, and social media.
  • Demonstrated current knowledge of widely used social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with marketing tools such as Canva Pro, MailChimp, and Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign).
  • Proficient in working with the news media to pitch stories, arrange interviews, provide background information, and craft message points for interview subjects.
  • Organized, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments as needed, independently or as a member of a team.
  • Ability to make independent and accurate decisions with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, challenging, and fast-paced organization.
  • Ability to maintain the integrity of confidential efforts and documents.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed to support crisis communication and organizational communication products.
  • Ability to travel as needed, including by air.

The target annual salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000. Final annual salary offered may be flexible based on a thorough assessment of multiple factors and criteria which may include candidate experience and qualifications, available market data, internal salary equity, and budget considerations.
