Join our Marketing team as a Marketing and Content Coordinator. This role will work to produce high-quality content suitable for a variety of audiences and mediums. This position will assist in developing advertising, public relations, content production, promotion of museum offerings, community events and all other marketing and communication under tight deadlines to engage and nurture prospects and audiences. This position is key in supporting the development and execution of written communications in alignment with the museum’s strategic goals and priorities. This position will proactively partner with cross-functional teams (brand, creative, Membership, sponsorship, museum experience, science, education, equity and access, and third-party partners and subject matter experts) to create audience-facing content at vertical and campaign levels from traditional to digital deliverables.

The Marketing and Content Coordinator will work closely with the Marketing Communications Specialist and Marketing and Public Relations Specialist and report to the Director of Marketing and Communications to deliver effective communication materials and copy for various marketing channels.

Work Environment: Fast paced, collaborative office setting. Temporarily remote work from home to be assessed every 3 months in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, office setting onsite.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications and will closely partner with the Marketing & Public Relations Specialist and Marketing and Communications Specialist to execute the agreed-upon marketing communication plan/editorial plan. 
  • Proactively build and foster collaborative relationships with internal partners and subject matter experts (SMEs) to create on-brand communication opportunities about the museum’s initiatives, mission impact, and experiences. 
  • Collaborate with marketing team members to nurture leads and ensure holistic, integrated execution of campaign launches and promotions. 
  • Ensure that content is reviewed and taken through proper approvals. 
  • Ensure the Science Museum of Minnesota’s branding standards are upheld in all communications materials and formats. 
  • Use a camera, or a recording device to support programs, media communications for museum audiences 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

60% of overall work will focus on customer facing marketing initiatives.

  • Receive and execute marketing and communications plans with a primary focus on audience engagement via various marketing channels including, but not limited to, brochures, flyers, catalogs, advertising, in-venue signage, email, website, and social media. 
  • Write, edit, develop, publish, and promote new and existing content using emails, social media, community listing platforms, and other methods to alert and attract new potential visitors and online users. 
  • Collaborate and support internal team members to update and add to the museum’s social media content calendar. 
  • Ensure social media content aligns with campaign objectives and strategies, brand voice and tone, and social media best practices. 
  • Assist in conducting ongoing web and digital content audits. 
  • Engage and support online communities and proactively respond to brand-related conversations on social media profiles (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest), and other online platforms (Bing, TripAdvisor, Google Business Listings). 
  • Write and edit content for museum emails and websites, and work with museum partners to uncover stories, conduct research to support writing, generate and implement content ideas. 
  • Update and support the web group maintain online content with a focus on customer experience, accessibility, plain language, and search (SEO).

40% of overall work will coordinate marketing strategies with public relations, events, and creative teams.

  • Assist in writing and proofreading copy, and provide input on marketing collateral or other forms of marketing communications. 
  • Represent the Science Museum brand at community and marketing events and manage event set-up, tear down, and follow-up processes. 
  • Assist with influencer marketing outreach, communication and sample coordination for PR efforts. 
  • Help identify marketing/ community opportunities, and work closely with Marketing creative leads to manage signage, collateral, and other vendors. 
  • Coordinate and manage promotional mailings and respond to requests for promotional materials.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, public relations, or marketing or equivalent experience. 
  • Demonstrated experience writing in a marketing, public relations, or advertising environment. 
  • Ability to write concisely, clearly and creatively in a fast-paced environment with aggressive deadlines. 
  • Ability to switch gears quickly and pivot to different writing projects, styles and voices daily. 
  • Proficiency with Google apps (experience with web-based proofing tools a plus).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills – including strong presentation skills. 
  • Self-starter who is able and willing to accept responsibility and perform with minimal supervision. 
  • Positivity toward change and inevitable mid-project course corrections and ability to multitask effectively. 
  • Knowledge of social media management systems, Sprout Social a plus. 
  • Cultural competency and experience working with diverse communities. 
  • Willingness to be open and respectful of all backgrounds. 
  • Fluency in language(s) other than English valued (Hmong, Somali, Spanish).

Hiring Pay Range: $50,000 USD or more annually / Depending on Qualifications.
