East Town Association is seeking a part-time intern (10-16 hours per week) to work hands-on at our events throughout the summer.

 

Position runs May 1 – October 10, 2020. Primary work hours include Thursdays, May 28 – August 27 from 1pm-10pm (every Thursday is required); and Saturdays, June 20 -October 10 from 7:00am-1:00pm (market schedule rotates and not every Saturday is required). Mandatory availability July 6-12.

Candidates must have the ability to work under pressure and handle high-energy events and event attendees. Persons need to be dependable, enthusiastic, personable, comfortable in social settings, dynamic, and eager to learn the event business. Sales experience and market research experience (professional or academic) are a plus. All majors welcome to apply.

Potential Job Duties:

Jazz in the Park:

  • Jazz in the Park set-up and tear down
  • Monitoring & handling the needs of sponsors
  • Monitoring & stocking the hospitality & backstage areas
  • Catering to the needs of “VIP” guests
  • Organizing & selling of merchandise
  • Creating and conducting surveys of event attendees
  • Serving as Jazz in the Park informational ambassador
  • Managing weekly social media posts and day-of coverage of the event

Cathedral Square Market:

  • Market Set-Up & Break Down
  • Tracking Vendor attendance and sales
  • Staffing East Town Association market info booth
  • Conducting hourly attendance counts
  • Serving as a Cathedral Square Market informational ambassador
  • Managing weekly social media posts and day-of coverage of the market

Bastille Days:

  • Assist with Storm the Bastille run registration and packet distribution
  • Staffing East Town Association’s Bastille Days merchandise booth
  • Aid with Bastille Days programming as needed including kids days events, waiter and waitress race, Mardi Gras parades, and wine tastings
  • Managing social media posts promoting Bastille Days programming

Other duties:

  • Answering phones & responding to general event questions
  • Greeting customers in the office
  • Database management & updating
  • Distributing event materials to local businesses and members

We are seeking a student intern, preferably working towards a bachelor's degree. All majors and years welcome to apply!

This internship is unpaid but includes downtown parking as needed. We are happy to work with you on earning academic credit for your time.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work and network with community leaders from various local businesses and corporations as well as civic and nonprofit organizations in Downtown Milwaukee, creating a great network for further personal and professional development.
