The UW–Madison School of Education is seeking a talented Associate Marketing Director to lead marketing efforts for programs and initiatives at the School. In this position, you would work with a highly collaborative, full-service communications and creative team to support the School’s vision and produce compelling communications across a variety of channels and platforms. Summary: The Marketing Associate Director leads marketing activities to support the collective work of UW–Madison’s School of Education. The Marketing Associate Director plays a crucial role in planning and executing compelling marketing campaigns for academic programs and initiatives across digital platforms to a variety of audiences from diverse backgrounds. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Communications and Advancement, the position works collaboratively with various departments, School leadership, and the UW–Madison Division of Continuing Studies to market academic programs, grow the School’s brand and online presence, and lead market research for the School. This position will supervise a team of marketers while working closely with peers in web development, design, communications, public relations, photography, and advancement/fundraising.

The Marketing Associate Director plays an important role in helping the School of Education serve and improve our communities, the state, and the world.

Responsibilities: Directs the development of marketing strategy and maintains responsibility for implementing marketing plans in support of institution, unit, and/or program goals.

  • 10% Develops relationships, brand strategies, and marketing plans for communicating institutional information 
  • 20% Directs marketing projects, including the design and production of internal and external publications 
  • 5% Serves as an institutional representative at various events and conferences, presenting information about the institution's programs and services 
  • 20% Develops marketing programs and campaigns that align with strategic marketing objectives of an institution, unit, and/or program 
  • 10% Contributes to budget development and forecasting, and approves resource allocations within budget parameters 
  • 15% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees 
  • 10% Leads development and maintenance of marketing dashboards to communicate and monitor key performance indicators, and progress toward goal for major projects 
  • 10% Leads market research initiatives through various software/vendors

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or related field preferred

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • At least 5 years of experience in marketing 
  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) systems, email marketing and marketing automation tools (like Salesforce, HubSpot, Eloqua) 
  • Demonstrated experience completing and evaluating effective marketing campaigns (including media/ad buying) 
  • Experience with project management principles and programs that have yielded successful outcomes 
  • Demonstrated track record in writing marketing copy and creating marketing materials 
  • Experience leading or collaborating with others on market research and analysis 
  • Experience working constructively with a wide array of peers and leadership to negotiate project scoping and implement solutions to challenges

 PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in cross-cultural communications or lived experience working across cultures, ages groups, and/or languages 
  • Familiarity with WordPress or similar content management system 
  • Experience working in continuing education and/or higher education marketing/recruitment 
  • Experience managing budgets 
  • Experience conducting or working with market research vendors 
  • Google Ads Certification and other digital marketing certifications 
  • Experience supervising individuals and teams
