Barr’s project teams work with clients in industries such as power, refining, mining, and manufacturing as well as attorneys, government agencies, and natural-resource-management organizations. Our project sites range from iron-ore mines in South America to wind-power farms in South Dakota, from manufacturing facilities in California to oil-sands fields in western Canada.

The individual in this role will join a talented, fun, and collaborative team of marketing and business development professionals who will support the intern as they explore their interests and contribute to building Barr’s marketing intelligence, strategies, and pursuits. Through the involvement of engaging work, the individual in this role will learn about the diverse and fascinating fields of engineering and environmental science, exploring topics ranging from water management to mining to alternative energy and climate resiliency. The projects completed with our team over the summer will enhance one’s professional portfolio. The ideal candidate for the role will have professional interests in marketing or business development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop a wide range of market research and manage market intelligence 
  • Collaborate with the company’s engineers, scientists, and business-support group staff to develop marketing strategies that identify our best opportunities to position for future work 
  • Prepare practitioners to position for success in securing new clients and projects 
  • Analyze market survey findings and recommend responses to findings 
  • Support industry and client strategy pursuit efforts using established company organization structures and resources 
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ongoing enrollment in a marketing, business, applied economics, or related program 
  • Junior or senior standing, with a minimum of one full-time semester of undergraduate or graduate course work remaining after the internship 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Attentiveness to details and deadlines 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively 
  • Ability to learn quickly 
  • Proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel software 
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3.2 or higher GPA 
  • Experience with market research databases 
  • Coursework or practical experience with market strategy development

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.
