Position Overview:

The Marketing Communication Specialist will provide marketing and communication support to the College of Business Administration and College of Nursing to help tell compelling stories and create content that resonates with their key stakeholders. This includes efforts to promote programs and offerings; news and successes; recruitment and retention efforts for students; and other marketing/communication needs.

This position will report to the Director of University Communication in the Office of Marketing Communication within University Relations, with 50% time dedicated to supporting the College of Business Administration and 50% time dedicated to supporting the College of Nursing. The Marketing Communication Specialist will be integral to maintaining each college’s web and social media presences, as well as assisting in the development of messaging and marketing materials – including but not limited to magazines, online content, promoting new programs and events, internal communication and media relations – to promote the work of the college/unit and the university’s mission.

Under the leadership of the Director of University Communication, this position will help steward the Marquette brand voice and integrate priority university message themes in communications across college communication channels to properly represent the university’s mission and strategic priorities.

This is a two-year position with the possibility of becoming permanent or continuing beyond the initial two years.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and maintain a tactical communication structure to organize each college’s needs for storytelling, event promotion, social media engagement, student recruitment, award submissions,DEIcommunication, etc., ensuring content creation for diverse internal and external audiences that highlights faculty research and innovations in the classroom.
  2. Manage each college’s web content and social media presences to promote unique programming, experiential learning opportunities, rigorous academic programs and mission-based initiatives.
  3. Assist with the planning and development of college collateral, including but not limited to magazines, e-newsletters, brochures and advertising.
  4. Collaborate with college departments to review, edit and update department websites and promotional material for improved, timely content and consistent appearance.
  5. Promote college achievements in collaboration with the Office of Marketing and Communication (OMC) and coordinate efforts for university channels, as appropriate.
  6. Work with the Director of University Communication, ensure college messaging and brand voice across communication channels are aligned with the university’s overall strategic messaging and brand voice.
  7. Provide media relations support for the colleges, including news releases, expert request fulfillment and media pitching.
  8. Support promotion of external events and provide counsel on organizing external events to ensure maximum impact.
  9. Cover the after-hours media and emergency communication line on a rotating on-call basis with other members of theOMCCommunication Team.
  10. Assist with college-specific issues management on an as-needed basis
  11. Provide media prep documents and staff media interviews with college experts on an as-needed basis
  12. Assist with photography/videography needs for the college
  13. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 2-3 years experience with marketing, communication or public relations, preferably in a university setting 
  • Knowledge of marketing and communication best practices in a higher education or corporate setting 
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Knowledge/experience with social media 
  • Knowledge/experience with online content management systems or coding for the web 
  • Computer/Software skills (word processing, desktop publishing, web design/development); proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) 
  • Knowledge/experience with web-based technologies and an understanding of web principles and search engine optimization practices 
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining outstanding customer service 
  • Must appreciate and uphold confidentiality and adhere to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 2+ years experience in a university setting 
  • Familiarity with web and social media software 
  • Strong writing skills 
  • Media relations experience 
  • Experience in photography and videography
