Join the Investment, Performance & Operations team in Marketing Communications as the Assistant Manager, Risk Management, Governance and Holistic Margin Management. This expert role is a critical enabler for our brand building approach. You’ll sit centrally in the Marketing Communications organization and help guide Marketing Communications teams in working to push the boundaries for how we bring bold ideas to life to enhance the experience consumers have with our brands … with appropriate controls to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with our marketing policies.

You must have a mindset of finding ways to say “yes” versus finding ways to say “no.” It won’t always be easy, so curiosity, tenacity and relationship-building skills are critical. You also need to be organized and process oriented to allow this capability to be deployed at scale across hundreds of promotional activations each year.

You’ll have your finger on the pulse of the organization as this role has line of sight across the entire North American Retail brand portfolio and everyday engagement with a broad set of internal and external partners. You’ll also have direct accountability for overseeing and leading the Marketing Communications Holistic Margin Management pipeline across dozens of Marketing Communications capabilities that touch hundreds of millions of dollars in consumer investment. All-in-all this is a great opportunity for you to build skills in a range of areas including: business strategy, partner management, business influence and process governance.


In this role you will have ownership and oversight across three different streams of work:

Risk Management

  • Protect the integrity and safety of our consumers and brands across a wide range of promotional activations – especially higher-risk programs involving sweepstakes, contents, premiums and product sampling 
  • Be the subject matter expert to support Marketing Communications teams across as they concept, develop and execute brand-building promotional programs – including training and education as part of the employee onboarding process 
  • Track and monitor promotional activations to ensure compliance with our marketing policies, applicable laws and company- and industry-wide best practices 
  • Interface with cross-functional business partners – Law, Sourcing, R&D, Global Business Solutions – to provide appropriate controls and guardrails across our promotional plans and executions 
  • Participate and engage with the Marketing Review Council and Marketing Technology Approval team as needed 
  • Qualify, manage and oversee external agency partners that support our promotional activations and ensure they meet or exceed our risk management requirements and expectations

Social Media Governance

  • Provide central oversight and governance across General Mills U.S. social media footprint 
  • Maintain a list of social media accounts/presences across all U.S. brands 
  • Monitor user access across these accounts and the third-party tools used in social media execution 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant aspects of our marketing policy for employees and external partners 
  • Provide education, training and reinforcement for employees, agencies and contractors that support social media activations for our brands

Holistic Margin Management Monitoring & Reporting

  • Serve as the Marketing Communications lead for Holistic Margin Management and provide regular updates to the leadership team on progress against annual targets 
  • Lead a cross-functional coalition including Sourcing, Finance and Global Business Solutions, to build, track and manage a robust pipeline of Holistic Margin Management projects related to Marketing Communications capabilities and investment 
  • Coordinate with Marketing Communications central expert and Operating Unit team members to ensure Holistic Margin Management projects are identified and delivered


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 6-8 years of previous marketing communications experience
  • Previous experience with: Working across a matrixed, multi-faceted organization; Process and project management; and External agency management.
  • Effective communication, coalition building and influence skills
  • Solution orientation through a consultative and collaborative approach
  • Unquestionable integrity to do the right thing all the time


  • Previous risk management or applicable experience highly valued
  • Comfort in working independently and navigating high degrees ambiguity
