The Bend is a start-up, entrepreneurial, nonprofit experience venue in West Bend, Wisconsin, featured on the National and State registers of historic places. The venue re-opened in March 2020 after a highly anticipated restoration. This 1929 Art Deco theatre building is owned and operated by the Historic West Bend Theatre, Inc., a growing, well-supported nonprofit start-up arts organization. By mission and vision, the venue hopes to contribute to a revival of arts and opportunity in the greater Washington County/suburban Milwaukee area.

The Bend seeks an experienced marketing communications professional with a passion for movies, music and entertainment, history and community development—with skills in brand storytelling, digital marketing, social media and organizational communications.

This position, under the supervision of (and in partnership with) the Executive Director, will manage the theatre's marketing communications and membership outreach efforts and serve in a leadership role assisting the Executive Director.

Candidates must be proactive, relationship-oriented, strategic, and most important, innovative. They must understand the big picture and have strong attention to detail, planning and logistics. They should feel comfortable juggling multiple projects in an entrepreneurial, start-up environment and must have excellent creative, organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills.

  • Manages all aspects of creative marketing communications efforts—including traditional print, new and social media, digital and web, and public relations efforts. 
  • Ensures all messages and visuals are in support of and consistent with The Bend’s brand.
  • Coordinates, plans, and executes marketing communications campaigns for public performances. (Also see: You will get to attend a lot of cool events!)
  • Develops multi-channel messaging/content for all platforms—including copywriting and creative content for social media, website, email, direct mail and digital display boards.
  • Consistently serves as a member of The Bend’s team at events. About 25 percent of the role will be focused on events management/execution.
  • Communicates with and executes on behalf of talent/talent managers. “Other duties as assigned” will be a huge—but rewarding—part of this role. The position is one of trust—and offers the opportunity for growth.
  • Degree in marketing, communications, journalism, design, project management or related field and 3+ years relevant experience.
  • Prior work with nonprofit and/or arts organizations is a bonus! 
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, content management systems, social networks and email marketing tools.
  • Knowledge of mobile devices and operating systems, cloud services and SEO.
  • Comfortable with trial and error, dreaming up original solutions and willingness to try new things.
  • Ability to communicate clearly about technology and digital media to non-technical colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
