Summary:

The Marketing Communications Specialist is a key member of a high-energy, fast-paced marketing team working on fully integrated digital marketing campaigns for Lerner Publishing Group. This position writes, proofreads, edits, and manages communications including email campaigns, social media, blog posts, and other marketing materials for a range of fiction and nonfiction books for children and teens. The Marketing Communications Specialist is involved in all aspects of the marketing process, and applies his/her project management experience and copywriting experience as part of a collaborative team. Projects include product emails, newsletters, blog posts, web copy, and social media content.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Day-to-day management of marketing automation software to facilitate execution of email nurtures and campaigns. Manage deployment of email campaigns including development of creative, QA and proofing of product information, campaign deployment, A/B testing, communication with sales and customer service departments regarding campaign details, and data/response tracking. 
  2. Management of contact database, including developing and protecting the structure and integrity of contact and customer information, including compliance with privacy guidelines. 
  3. Day-to-day oversight of company websites, microsites, landing pages, and promotional pages, in accordance with marketing department strategies. 
  4. Day-to-day management of blog and social media presence, maintaining brand voice and growing engagement over time 
  5. Implement content marketing plan to coordinate email campaigns, social media, blog, and websites for effectiveness and efficiency 
  6. Analyze and report on email campaigns, social media, and website performance. Identify trends and opportunities for improved engagement and best practices. 
  7. Monitor competitive online marketing activity, including social media, email, and websites and propose revisions to existing programs and new programs to ensure a leadership position. 
  8. Produce compelling, on-brand ideas and content, powerful headlines, benefits-driven copy, and marketing content that drives customer action. Ensure that copy meets Lerner Publishing Group brand standards and requirements (style, voice, tone, etc.) and that written and visual content works hand in hand. 
  9. Consult, as appropriate, with channel marketing managers, editors, and/or sales staff for each project to understand strategy, clarify messaging, and resolve project content issues. 
  10. Perform other related business duties assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or other management as required.

Experience and Necessary Skills:

  1. Minimum of two years’ consumer and/or B2B email marketing experience including contact database management is required. 
  2. Has demonstrated strong project management skills and is able to manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines simultaneously, to prioritize and communicate effectively, and to work effectively as part of a team. 
  3. Strong copywriting and copyediting skills. 
  4. Exceptional analytical, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Possesses superior attention to detail as a dedication to excellence is imperative to the position. 
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing deadlines and obtaining necessary approvals. 
  7. Strong proficiency in Word, Excel, HTML, Canva, Google Analytics and marketing automation and web content management tools. 
  8. Publishing or education marketing experience a plus.

Education:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field or equivalent experience
