MARKETING DIRECTOR POSITION OVERVIEW:

Working in close collaboration studio leadership, the Marketing Director plays an influential role in the operation and promotion of the firm. The Director is responsible for the overall execution of the firm’s marketing strategy. This includes spearheading proposal and communications strategies, market research, attending industry events, awards submissions, photography, updating a CRM database, and managing marketing coordinators in their daily activities.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT/LEAD SCREENING:

The Marketing Director will serve as a central manager of all business development. Specific tasks include:

  • Support Partners and Senior Staff Members in designated marketing activities be it new client introductions, interviews, or speaking engagements. 
  • Prepare tailored marketing collateral as needed 
  • Develop and maintain network of industry contacts, i.e., consultants, contractors, architectural colleagues, clients; cultivate leads and gather intelligence through network 
  • Participate in networking and industry-related events and conferences and serve as outward facing representative of the firm 
  • Compile research regarding existing and prospective clients, competitor activity, and industry or market trends to aid in the development of marketing plans, proposals, and presentations 
  • Screen opportunities before passing on to partners and associates 
  • Participate in go/no-go decision-making process 
  • Ensure CRM database is maintained and is fully integrated into marketing strategy execution

COMMUNICATIONS:

The Marketing Director will be tasked with developing and executing active communication strategies used to promote both practice and staff across a range of outlets: specialty communications, newsletters, social media, and website. The Director will develop these strategies in collaboration with the firm’s brand strategist and public relations consultant. Specific tasks will include:

  • Create and publish of quarterly newsletters and other specialty communications collateral 
  • Create and maintain marketing collateral (project sheets, resumes, brochures) 
  • Oversee regular website updates 
  • Assist in organizing and procuring project photography 
  • Develop a social media communications plan and oversee its execution; track analytics (Instagram, Facebook)

PROPOSAL MANAGEMENT:

The Marketing Director will lead the coordination and creation of project solicitations (RFQs, RFPs, and project interviews). Specific tasks include:

  • Help define overall teaming strategies (consultants and staffing) 
  • Lead the strategic development of customized responses to RFPs and subsequent interview presentations 
  • Participate in interview planning and rehearsals. 
  • Ensure developed project strategies are compellingly portrayed in presentation materials while coaching team participants with messaging 
  • Schedule and lead debriefs of project pursuits 
  • Supervise marketing coordinators in the layout, writing, and editing of all project responses 
  • Manage printing and delivery process

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Eight or more years of experience in marketing, communications, or public relations preferably in the design industry 
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or related field 
  • Formidable storytelling skills (graphic and narrative) 
  • Facile in synthesizing complex and technical information to craft compelling narratives 
  • Passion for design and innovation; always looking for inspired ways to communicate brand tenants 
  • Command of marketing work processes and managing concurrent workflow and marketing staff 
  • Ability to work both independently as well within cross-functional, collaborating with multiple internal and external stakeholders 
  • Formidable InDesign and PowerPoint is required; working knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop, and database programs such as Deltek Vision is preferable 
  • Able to travel to other Hoerr Schaudt offices and/or client project locations as needed
