The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by dining units and a variety of non-food units such as recreation, guest rooms and space rentals. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The Wisconsin Union has an annual operating budget of $56 million and employs nearly 250 full-time staff and 1500 student staff in the departments of Program & Leadership, Hospitality Services, Facilities, Administration and the Office of the Director. In addition, over 300 student volunteers and 2,000 club members under the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) produce over 2,000 programs annually.
The Marketing Director is responsible for the overall administration, direction, and leadership of all marketing and communications efforts for the Wisconsin Union, including development of a holistic organization marketing strategy and leadership of Union-wide brand development and management. The position includes supervision of the Union's Marketing Department, which is responsible for the marketing and promotion of the total Union program including the Union's premier self-supporting dining and hospitality operation, a hotel operation, indoor and outdoor recreation programs, a large catering business, a performing arts venue and over 2,000 programs annually planned by the student- run Wisconsin Union Directorate committees. As part of its mission, the Union Marketing Department serves as a 'learning laboratory', where students gain hands-on experience in marketing, market research, advertising and graphic design.
