WUWM 89.7 FM is seeking a talented, self-starter Marketing/Graphic Design intern with excellent communication skills for the school year of Sept. 2010-May 2011 (start and end dates are flexible). This is a learning position. Working hours must co-inside with that of the station: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm., approximately 10-12 hours per week. Schedule is flexible. There may be some night and weekend work at outreach events. 

Duties include:

  1. Assist with public relastions/communication projects (research, press release, write articles/content, social media).
  2. Maintain and organize marketing/advertising records Design advertisements (print & web), signage, flyers & posters.
  3. Take/edit digital photos
  4. Represent WUWM at community outreach events (concerts/farmers markets).
  5. Assist Marketing/Development staff with regular duties including mailings and organizing files.

Requirements include:

  1. College student (UWM preferred) with declared major in Marketing, Mass Communication, Public Relations, English or related field (Junior/Senior status preferred).
  2. Superior writing skills.
  3. Outstanding phone etiquette.
  4. Computer skills (PC: Required: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Optional: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  5. Efficient, reliable and capable of working with minimal supervision.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills.
  7. Creative.
  8. Sense of humor.
  9. Professional with a personal commitment to excellence.
  10. Knowledge of public radio is a plus.

Compensation is not provided for internships. Interns are considered volunteers.

Each internship is eligible to earn college credits, requiring the student to work 12-15 hours per week. Priority is given to UWM students.

To receive college credits as a WUWM intern, students should inquire at their school's career services or internship departments. WUWM must have a formal arrangement with the school, and the student must have a faculty sponsor and be majoring in Marketing, Communications (Public Relations, English) or Journalism & Mass Communications.
