Overview:

The Greater Milwaukee Convention and Visitors Bureau, D.B.A. VISIT Milwaukee, is a private, non-profit corporation formed in 1967. As the main destination marketing organization (DMO) for the greater Milwaukee area, our primary goal is representing and promoting Greater Milwaukee as a premier destination for major conventions, corporate meetings, group tours, and business and leisure travelers. Our goal of increasing visitor and meeting generated revenue is achieved through sophisticated and integrated sales, services, marketing, and public relations programs geared to local, regional, national and international target markets. Through this process, VISIT Milwaukee is able to reach new and existing markets to increase visitors and economic impact to Greater Milwaukee.

VISIT Milwaukee is offering an internship opportunity in our marketing and communications department. The marketing intern will be assigned special projects and duties as determined by the supervisor to support and assist the VISIT Milwaukee marketing department.

VISIT Milwaukee’s marketing department is charged with elevating the image of branding Milwaukee as a premier destination for meetings, conventions and leisure travel. The department also supports the entire in-house VISIT Milwaukee team with marketing projects such as annual guides, ad sales and digital projects.

Additional departmental responsibilities include overseeing the marketing calendars and project schedules, seasonal advertising campaigns, media buys, social media contests, printed marketing collateral, PowerPoint presentations, tracking key performance indicators in CRM system, reporting and marketing research.

The marketing intern supports the marketing function of the organization in several ways.

Intern responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the management of marketing projects, the creation of custom promotional materials and tracking results.
  • Assist with advertising campaign development, media buying and advertising placements.
  • Trained on and overseeing updates to annual media calendars and insertion orders.
  • Assist with updating and maintaining VISIT Milwaukee websites and databases as well as gain an understanding of SEO and PPC, as it is used to drive online traffic.
  • Assist in developing creative and engaging content for marketing promotions.
  • Support in assembling internet and social media analytics.
  • Compile market research to promote Milwaukee both to leisure and convention audiences.
  • Help with the creation of e-Newsletter, blogs, and social media content.
  • Assist in planning, preparation and participation of CVB events and tourism-related projects.
  • Maintain CRM database to track partners in marketing projects and lead system related to reporting and tracking of marketing initiatives.
  • Support with the maintenance of the VISIT Milwaukee photo and video library (WebDAM).

Education and Experience Requirement:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited academic institution with a major in marketing, business, public relations, or a related field.

Required skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of marketing concepts, web sites, web browsers, and various image and video file formats.
  • Advanced computer experience including MS Office 2010 Suite required.
  • Database experience a plus.
  • Exceptional knowledge of the greater Milwaukee area, including attractions, arts and cultural institutions, events, restaurants, etc.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills and the ability to convey information in a positive manner.
  • Keen attention to detail, the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 16 hours per week during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This is an unpaid internship. It can be structured for eligible college credit.

Start and end dates of the internship and individual schedule will be arranged at time of internship offer.
