The John Morrell Food Group is searching for a Marketing Manager. This is a unique position that will support our Premium Pet Health business along with supporting our Direct Store Delivery business. 

The Marketing Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to, being accountable for the development and implementation of marketing strategies and brand plans, including product quality, close-in and breakthrough innovation, and brand activation. The business is comprised of several brands, requiring a brand portfolio strategy that enables Premium Pet Health and our Direct Store Delivery group achieve its market share and financial objectives for the category. 

Responsibilities include “Product” (quality, innovation, packaging), “Place” (channel strategies and distribution), “Price” (pricing strategy and implementation), and “Promotion” (advertising, consumer promotion, media strategy and implementation planning, PR). This position is responsible for category strategy, pricing strategy and analysis, and ongoing business analysis to drive the performance of the category. 

The Marketing Manager collaborates with various internal and external entities to develop and implement marketing and innovation plans. 

Responsibilities: 

Brand and P&L Management - 

  • Sets the brand’s annual objectives, strategies, tactics and measures. Delivers revenue and profit targets.
  • Analyzes consumer and market trends to address business opportunities and issues.
  • Develops category strategy, pricing strategy and analysis, and performs ongoing business analysis to drive the performance of the brand.
  • Leads a wide variety of functional areas to develop and manage marketing objectives, strategies, and tactics.
  • Develops ongoing recommendations for marketing mix elements and other business-building initiatives.
  • Responsible for brand budget and P&L, and manages cost implications of projects.
  • Ensures Legal approval of all documents, contracts, and materials that touch external stakeholders.
  • Leads market and competitive analyses, leveraging syndicated and proprietary data.
  • Participates in sales presentations and customer meetings. 

Advertising and Promotion Management - 

  • Manages agency relationships and leads the preparation for internal and external brand presentations.
  • Develops and implements an integrated brand image and message throughout all advertising, packaging and promotional efforts.
  • Evaluates creative, ensuring the most motivating messaging reaches target consumers.
  • Develops effective and efficient media plans with agency to reach target consumers. 

Innovation Management - 

  • Leads product development process, identifying consumer insight, creating product proposition, assessing market potential.
  • Partners with other functional areas to quickly bring viable new products to market.
  • Identifies opportunities for growth and cost improvement.
  • Responsible for line extensions that can be launched within next 12 months. 

People Management - 

  • Works with cross-functional teams, leading marketing efforts
  • Interacts with customers to help build an innovative culture 

Required Experience: 

  • Masters degree is desirable, but not necessary. MBA in Marketing or related field (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least five years classical marketing experience, and up to two years people management experience (preferred).
  • Up to 3 years sales experience.
  • Demonstrates the ability to collaborate.
  • Experience managing P&L.
  • Proficiency with syndicated data.
  • Experience developing consumer marketing objectives and translating these into strategies and tactics – the ability to develop the strategy and drive the business.
  • Must be comfortable selling/demonstrating products and building strategic relationships with our customers.
