The Marketing Manager is responsible for developing and executing innovative, multi-channel marketing strategies and promotional campaigns to increase brand equity and market share for the Wisconsin Historical Society. This includes revenue and attendance generation for the Society’s multiple historic sites/museums located throughout the State. This role works cross-functionally within the marketing communications team, as well as in collaboration with colleagues throughout the organization, to successfully achieve measurable results to goal across a wide project portfolio.

The Marketing Manager also serves as a day-to-day liaison with an outside agency in the development and execution of all paid advertising strategies. A data-driven, results-oriented mindset is essential in this position, as is the ability to leverage quantitative and qualitative insights to meet KPIs. The ideal candidate for this position will be creative, strategic, detail-oriented, and a highly driven, professional communicator who enjoys the challenge of working both independently and collaboratively within a highly-matrixed organization. This role supervises the marketing coordinator and digital marketing strategist.

The Marketing Manager is part of a fast-paced, in-house Wisconsin Historical Foundation team that includes marketing, communications, content, public relations, social media, graphic design, video/photo and digital professionals who work to grow awareness of the Wisconsin Historical Society portfolio.

Primary Duties

  • Participate in the development and execution of comprehensive, multi-channel marketing communications plans and programs to support the business objectives of the Wisconsin Historical Society, including annual campaigns for all historic sites and museums within the Society portfolio. 
  • Implement tactics established in the annual marketing plan to successfully achieve KPIs. 
  • Serve as a day-to-day liaison with outside agency partner in the facilitation of paid advertising campaigns. 
  • Manage the development and execution of all email marketing within the ActiveCampaign platform. 
  • Facilitate development of annual content plans related to historic sites and museums programs and event listings. 
  • With director, oversee the development and production of a wide variety of promotional and collateral materials. 
  • Leverage market data and consumer studies to articulate trends analysis and drive actionable insights.
  • Develop campaign overviews and comprehensive campaign wrap reports to assist in the evaluation of marketing efforts. 
  • Project manage team members and department shareholders to execute cross-functional campaigns efficiently and on deadline. 
  • Participate in the development of the annual budget. 
  • Manage financial resources allocated to marketing efforts to optimize return on spend. 
  • Assist in the development of brand activation. 
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice across all campaigns and promotional materials. 
  • Serve as an active brand steward. 
  • Lead digital strategist in development of detailed data analytics, insights and reports to leverage success and optimize campaign performance. 
  • Lead the marketing communications coordinator in optimization of internal communication platforms and creative brief process.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of working within a marketing communications team in a similar role. 
  • Bachelors degree in marketing, business administration, communications or related discipline. 
  • Supervisory experience. 
  • Experience developing and executing comprehensive marketing plans and promotional campaigns, with proven ability to develop clear messaging and value propositions for target markets. 
  • Digital marketing experience and strong understanding of digital marketing technologies. 
  • Excellent analytical skills and a strong focus on outcome and performance measurement. 
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to develop and execute at the tactical level, including setting milestones, assigning roles and responsibilities, aligning teams around goal, delivering on time and within budget. 
  • Experience activating / launching new brands highly desirable. 
  • Experience collaborating as part of a team in the facilitation of a website rebuild highly desirable. 
  • Experience leveraging data to inform campaign development and improve performance. 
  • Self-motivated with the ability to effectively prioritize competing projects. 
  • Experience working in a deadline-oriented environment with a high attention to detail and quality. 
  • Experience and high comfort level in managing and tracking work in a work management platform such as Asana. 
  • Experience in using email marketing platforms such as ActiveCampaign a plus. 
  • Advanced proficiency in use of Microsoft Office suite including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to leverage across various internal and external teams.
