National Co+op Grocers (NCG) is a member-owned business service cooperative providing a variety of services to 147 retail food co-ops in 38 states. NCG helps unify food co-ops in order to optimize operational and marketing resources, strengthen purchasing power, and offer more value to food co-op shoppers everywhere.

We are seeking an energetic, self-directed and experienced individual with the ability to develop and execute strong marketing and communications plans. This position will work with a wide range of stakeholders to help increase member and consumer awareness, understanding, and engagement with NCG and retail food co-ops.

This is an ideal position for a self-motivated and experienced candidate who is well-versed in using marketing and communications techniques to achieve positive impacts and who is committed to the success of retail food co-ops, their owners and shoppers, and their communities.

This position will be based in NCG's St. Paul, MN office, and requires up to 10% business travel. Relocation assistance is available for this opportunity!

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute marketing and communications plan and budget. 
  • Create and maintain programs, services and campaigns for NCG co-ops. 
  • Create and maintain consumer promotional/educational materials and support products. 
  • Provide marketing and graphic design oversight for multi-faceted, cross-functional projects, from concept through design, on an ongoing basis. 
  • Manage and provide marketing support to ensure content of NCG websites and social media spaces are current and useful. 
  • Participate in planning and presentation of marketing trainings and program updates at NCG meetings and events. 
  • Manage team of four (two direct reports) in the areas of graphic design and web development including interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business communications, or business administration preferred; and/or a minimum of five years progressively responsible marketing experience including budget management. 
  • Minimum of 3 years' supervisory experience. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of effective marketing and communications techniques. 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan for, carry out and provide support for projects with minimal supervision. 
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated strong project management and organizational skills. 
  • Familiarity with natural foods and consumer cooperatives a plus. 
  • Familiarity with Excel and Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
