About the Unit:

UCX, a placeholder name for a new unit focused on professional education. This unit will work collaboratively with all other schools and divisions across the University to create specialized degree and non-degree programming for non-traditional students interested in professional development.

Job Family:

Responsible for planning, preparing, publishing, and disseminating University sponsored information both internally and externally. Prepares written, graphical, audio, and visual material to support the communications to press and government agencies.

Plans, develops, designs, and implements the strategic and tactical marketing plans for a department, program, product or business. Coordinates and evaluates the production of marketing communication and research programs.

Responsibilities:

The job designs and develops marketing plans for a department, program, product or business with moderate guidance and direction from others. Coordinates and evaluates the production of marketing communication and research programs, using existing procedures to solve routine problems that may arise.

  1. Develops marketing communications, advertising, or publicity materials with a moderate level of guidance from others. Develops, plans, and coordinates the development and production of marketing and publicity materials and campaigns, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met., 
  2. Performs one or more of the following marketing functions: marketing communications /advertising; Web blogs or digital marketing; market research; development or review and update of the marketing infrastructure and management of external sales agency relationships., 
  3. Monitors, analyzes, and reports on sales and circulation activity. Analyses possible solutions using standard procedures. Conducts market research, analyzes results and develops marketing strategies based on findings. May participate in developing new products and services, and determining new markets., 
  4. May train the work of lower level marketing staff., 
  5. Performs other related work as needed.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Act as day-day lead for marketing planning and execution for various academic and professional programs
  2. Lead regular update meetings with program team members
  3. Develop creative briefs and closely collaborate with the design team on creative development and project execution
  4. Manage information flow between marketing and enrollment management teams for event creation and communication, and prospect leads
  5. Proofread marketing materials to ensure that they follow the Chicago Manual of Style prior to publication

Unit-preferred Competencies:

  1. Experience using social media and online/digital communications to reach an audience
  2. Experience managing creative development across traditional and digital platforms
  3. Ability to work across a portfolio of programs/products

Education, Experience, and Certifications:

  • Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
  • Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred-unit Qualifications:

Experience:

  1. A minimum of one year of direct experience in professional programs marketing
  2. Experience in Higher Education and/or an academic environment committed to the highest level of academic standards of integrity and quality
  3. Familiarity with the University of Chicago
