WINGS Program is looking for a talented and dedicated Media and Communications Manager to help grow our media presence throughout Chicagoland. This isn’t your typical marketing and social media – by joining the WINGS team, you have the opportunity to reach those who are looking for help but don’t know where to turn. By working closely with all departments to drive their communications and marketing efforts, the work you do will make an impact and help to support awareness and fundraising efforts that are an integral part of the WINGS mission.


Communications Team

  • Lead Communications Team in implementation of communications, marketing, and media strategies
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of the integrated marketing plan


  • Responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with traditional media outlets to promote WINGS impact in the communities that WINGS serves
  • Responsible for writing and issuing press releases for media coverage of events related to domestic violence and raising awareness/promoting WINGS
  • Responsible for writing Op-Ed pieces on current issues around domestic violence
  • Oversee the social media communications plan and support the implementation of the plan


  • Serve as copy editor for all major marketing and communications pieces, ensuring consistency of message and adherence to editorial standards
  • Protect and promote the brand and identity when working with external entities
  • Cultivate stories, pitches, and digital story extensions
  • Create website content and make basic website updates
  • Collaborate and create content for the production of internal and external print and electronic communications: Annual Report, newsletters, direct mail pieces, blog, and various marketing collateral


  • Responsible for all corporate communications
  • Strategize, negotiate, and determine placement of print advertisements, to promote resale, domestic violence awareness and development activities
  • Oversee alignment of communication platforms including, digital, social, email and mailings


  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, or a closely related field 
  • 5 years minimum of full-time experience in communications, public relations, or a similar role; experience in a non-profit preferred 
  • Experience in communications, public relations, media relations, and crisis management 
  • Excellent communication, writing and editing skills; strong attention to detail and proofreading; varied writing style to meet specific needs; ability to quickly repurpose content from various sources 
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion 
  • Understands and adheres to brand, visual, and editorial standards to effectively promote WINGS 
  • Produce concise, accurate, effective, and professional messaging 
  • Capability to meet tight deadlines 
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, which may include evenings and weekends, as needed 
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, working knowledge of WordPress 
  • Successfully complete 40-Hour Domestic Violence training within six months of hire
