Media Relations Manager

If so, then the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago is looking for you!

We have an opening for a full-time Media Relations Manager who will be primarily responsible for promoting all of the arts programming at the MCA and independently managing media activities related to the exhibitions, restaurant, and fundraising activities, along with other museum initiatives. To be successful in this role, you must be able to:

• Research and write engaging and impactful content incorporating broader strategic messaging in press releases, news alerts, talking points, pitches, letters, speeches, and presentations. 
• Handle internal assets and media reports and create presentations based on media messages. 
• Build professional relationships with writers and social media influencers, respond to inquiries, and conduct extensive follow-up with media sources. 
• Help strategize how to amplify museum voices and coverage, and translate messaging across platforms. 
• Assist in crisis preparedness and planning. 
• Provide general administrative and logistical support for the department as needed.

Desired qualifications are abachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or art history; 5 years of professional work experience in media relations, communications, or editorial; and:

• Demonstrated interest in the visual and performing arts; background in arts and culture is preferred. 
• Excellent organizational skills. 
• Keen attention to detail. 
• Ability to work independently. 
• Ability to anticipate needs and deliver solutions that achieve employee, department, and organizational goals. 
• Proven ability to handle confidential and/or sensitive information with discretion.

This is a full-time position with a schedule of Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm and as required for implementation of responsibilities and related museum activities. Ability to operate computers, printers, and telephones and general mobility throughout the building required.
