Reporting to the Executive Director of Strategic Marketing Communications, the Media Relations Manager is responsible for identifying media outlets and preparing appropriate pitches; writing and sharing patient stories; tracking media coverage; prepping NCH employees and leadership for press conferences, interviews and events; hosting media while on campus; and fostering relationships with editors, reporters, network producers and anchors to maintain and increase positive media coverage for NCH.

  1. The level of knowledge acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, English or Marketing/Communications. 
  2. Minimum of 5 years of progressive corporate communications experience including publications development and public relations. Experience writing press releases, web content, articles and marketing materials required. 
  3. Previous healthcare experience preferred. 
  4. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint) required.
  5. Knowledge of CRM data systems, Basecamp project management software and Cision/Meltwater media tracking software experience desirable. 
  6. Manages writing and pitching of patient stories to be used in monthly e-newsletter, NCH Health Digest and in local publications. Manages pool of freelance writers/photographers.
  7. Writes and edits press releases and uploads content to website. Interviews physicians, staff and patients. Sets up and shoots photos. 
  8. Tracks media coverage in Cision, produces monthly media analytics reports. Manages contractors that provided freelance writing services for the department.
  9. Coordinates media events on campus. Follows up with media contacts to ensure all assets are received. Shares media coverage with leadership, service line leads, physicians and staff.
  10. Partners with various community editors to supply regular content for featured columns in publications such as D. 214 newsletter, Daily Herald Health & Fitness section; Northwest Quarterly Magazine, student and staff newsletters at Harper College; et al.
  11. Promotes new physicians, technologies, locations, blood drives, events, etc. Submits appropriate content to employee newsletter.
