Membership and Communications Manager

The Bike Fed is looking for a self-motivated Membership and Communications Manager to grow the Bike Fed’s membership as well as produce high-quality content that engages members and potential members. The ideal candidate will have experience with strategies for membership growth, retention, and engagement. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and an affinity for cycling are a must. The position will require some travel to meet with other cycling groups around the state as well as occasional evening and weekend hours. Reporting to the Executive Director, the ideal candidate has program management experience, is able to learn new technology quickly, and has member or customer service experience. They are also highly organized, creative, outgoing, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated, professional and creative individual to help grow the bicycle advocacy movement.

This full-time position can be based anywhere in Wisconsin with a home office, or at our headquarters in Milwaukee.

Physical Requirements: Sitting for prolonged periods, typing on a computer keyboard, lifting objects of 25 pounds or less.

Equipment Used: Computer, audio-visual systems, printer/copier, cameras

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the Bike Fed’s individual membership program, including new initiatives for retention and growth 
  • Serve as the head of statewide customer service for members and the greater community 
  • Serve as an administrator for the Bike Fed Salesforce database, working to improve processes, applications, and workflows 
  • Establish and maintain an annual communications timeline to assure quality control over all membership communications and paid advertising 
  • Oversee and coordinate the production of marketing collateral with graphic designers, printers, and content providers 
  • Manage the Membership Services Coordinator and Community Engagement Manager 
  • Create and coordinate monthly member renewals and quarterly print appeals 
  • Assist with writing press releases, blog posts and articles, developing content for eblasts, website, and Bike Fed publications, promoting events and coordinating media relations. 
  • Manage membership outreach events and support other special events as needed
  • Previous marketing and membership relationship experience required with a proven track record of success or understanding of membership from work experience at a membership-based organization, preferably in the nonprofit sector 
  • Database administration experience, preferably with 
  • Direct mail experience 
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and Wordpress 
  • Marketing and communications experience 
  • Customer service experience 
  • Strong writing skills

Salary: $40,000 - $50,000, commensurate with experience. Low employee co-pays for health & dental insurance, up to 3% of annual wages matched in a SIMPLE IRA account, FSA and HSA tax free accounts and generous paid time off.
