University Communications, the central news and media relations hub at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is looking for a storyteller who is equally comfortable in words and images, as well as pitching ideas to news media and sharing content in ways that engage audiences across a variety of web and social platforms.

We're seeking someone who's knowledgeable about the fast-changing media landscape and who can use a variety of tools, ranging from WordPress to Instagram to Tik-Tok, to best get that message to the audiences we seek to reach, which include the general public, students, faculty and staff, parents, alumni, Wisconsin residents and more.

The successful candidate will:

Be able to conceive, research, and create a range of content across multimedia platforms in a way that enhances storytelling and engages audiences.

Be knowledgeable of and proficient in a variety of media - writing, photo, video, social media - and eager to adopt emerging communication tools.

Possess a proven ability to write quickly and accurately.

Demonstrate competency engaging with people of many identities/backgrounds and seek to advance equity and inclusion through effective communications.

Have strong time-management and organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects in a deadline-driven, highly detail-oriented environment.

Work effectively with colleagues in and outside our office to plan and execute projects. Display sound judgment, initiative and problem-solving ability.

  • Associate's degree in journalism, marketing, strategic communications, public relations or other communications-related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience in journalism, public relations or marketing, with demonstrated success in writing, photography, video, and social media.

Minimum $55,000 salary; health care, vacation time, retirement benefits.
