Introduction (Description of School/College/Dept/Program):

The School of Continuing Education (SCE) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is looking for an energetic, creative individual to join a team of professionals in a dynamic, fast-paced, educational environment. The School of Continuing Education is the largest provider of professional development in Southeastern Wisconsin, providing year-round lifelong learning through varied venues, including short courses, workshops, and certificate programs. UWM SCE delivers online and blended instruction as well as educational opportunities via traditional classroom interaction in our classrooms in downtown Milwaukee and customized, onsite instruction at business locations and other unique locations throughout the city, region, and country.

Job Summary:

This professional position will provide overall support to the SCE but will concentrate on supporting College of Health Sciences (CHS) and TechEd Frontiers programs providing designs and developing multimedia solutions and materials in collaboration with other content creators. The Multimedia Designer is responsible for directing operational activities for multiple communication platforms and post content within the SCE that may include maintaining websites, social media, written/illustrative communications, collateral development, direct mail, email, public relations, advertising, publicity, and online tools in conjunction with promotional items, activities, events, and publications to publicize SCE's services.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Conceptualizing, planning, designing, and executing multimedia solutions while contributing to the development of communication, event, and marketing materials for the SCE programs that may be used through various platforms in collaboration with stakeholders and other content creation staff.
  • Tracking and managing timelines and deliverables related to communication projects and developing and implementing annual marketing plans for programs through the development and application of marketing data-gathering instruments such as surveys, opinion polls, or questionnaires and interpreting the results of such studies.
  • Preparing all continuing education course publications and client facing materials for approximately 100 courses annually using Adobe Suite programs such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, and web design tools such as WordPress and other university approved software.
  • Directing and creating operational activities for multiple communication platforms and post content for programs that may include maintaining websites, social media, written/illustrative communications, collateral development, direct mail, email, public relations, advertising, publicity, copy to trade journals, and online tools to promote continuing education programs that align with the overall SCE strategic initiative.
  • Conducting strategic market research and analysis to develop actionable marketing strategies, define market position and potential, and evaluate the success of campaigns.
  • Developing and facilitating trainings for staff, AV staff, and customers regarding technology options and best practices including apps for live streaming online continuing education programs, video recordings, and in person experiences.
  • Preparing and verifying proper departmental coding, authorized signatures, course/program codes and mathematical computations. Maintaining the budget using spreadsheet software including multimedia expenses against revenue. Keeping records of expenditures and the balances of expenditures and accounts. Preparing monthly statements, compiling financial data monthly, and reconciling invoices and providing to immediate supervisor.

This is a full time, fixed-term terminal academic staff position, renewable annually. Salary will be based on qualifications and experience. The hiring range for this position is $55,000 (minimum) and $68,000 (maximum). This position has excellent fringe benefits including four weeks annual vacation. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in English, public relations, journalism or communications, marketing, advertising, or related field. 
  • Three plus years’ experience in marketing communications encompassing multi-media disciplines. 
  • Demonstrated evidence of exceptional customer service skills. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Suite programs such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and web design tools such as WordPress and other university approved software. 
  • Ability to independently travel to sites, setup equipment, and lift and move items weighing up to 40 lbs. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year’s experience using medical terminology. 
  • Market research experience and how to utilize the concepts throughout various forms of outreach. 
  • Ability to work independently and in a group. 
  • Ability to write, proofread, think, and present information in a clear, concise manner understandable to professionals. 
  • Experience creating original content for social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn. 
  • General knowledge of search engine optimization and internet ranking for web content.

A well-qualified candidate possessing the ideal combination of skills and experience can expect a starting salary between $52,000 & $55,000 and a generous paid leave package including:

  • Vacation: 22 days/year
  • Observed Legal Holidays: Nine legal holidays are observed 
  • Personal/Floating Holidays: 4.5 days/year 
  • Sick Leave: Initial entitlement 22 days which may be used during the first 18-months of employment (one day/month earned thereafter)
